It's not bad. I like the color. It sort of reminds me of AMLI on 2nd. And it looks like a cross between Callaway House and 2400 Nueces.

Also those dark spots (windows?) up the gold shaft - they look like braille.

I think it's okay only because West Campus is becoming more and more dense. I don't think I'd like it as much if it wasn't crammed in with a bunch of other stuff. Because it is, it adds texture and different colors to the area...not all the same thing over and over.

Ugh. Looks cheap. All those surfaces look like miles of bad stucco with small widows.
And the lines..... it looks like a design identity crisis.

At least it's tucked away mostly out of view in a corner in West Campus instead of being on I-35.

^ That's my point. I'm not going to lose much sleep over this one. I wouldn't want it on Cesar Chavez by the river or anything.

It's a lot better than the supposed original design that was shown here. And I like it. 21Rio and Callaway House are mostly boring boxes. I'm liking the variety that 2400 Nueces brought and that this and University House will bring. Besides, setbacks are good. How else are we to know whose skyline it is on the side of the fleets of local small businesses?

I actually like it too. It's a much bolder design than most West Campus projects.
There are very few projects Downtown that I don't like based solely on aesthetics.

Since no one else seems to want to say it, I will... This looks like a 2017 version of Jester.

Wow, you're right! With some modifications and paint, you can see how they ripped off Jester for their way better design like Led Zepplin ripped off Spirit's song 'Taurus' and turned it into the way better 'Stairway to Heaven'.

Hey, some of us prefer the Spirit song!*.

^ Haha.

The resemblance is striking, but I personally think it's coincidental (talking about the tower, not the song).

Another 650+ students living in walking distance from UT and enjoying the car-optional lifestyle--I love it! Break ground today!

Their 2504 San Gabriel project is Central Texas' first Prescient project. http://www.prescientco.com/ This allowed them to add two floors at the last minute.

Are we ready to begin talking about expanding the incredibly successful UNO boundaries? Seems like those advocating for affordability, walkability, safety and the like would argue yes on this one.

Let's be real: a significant portion of these students will come from those who are already living nearby except living in the more run-down apartment complexes or who are living in crappy dorm style houses owned by quasi-slumlords and who have finally decided to either use their financial aid to more into something nicer or to ask their parents for a bit more help... because they just can't take it anymore. Only some of the demand will come from students moving into the core from outside of the core -- and you also have to consider the effect of student turnover, too. Newer students moving here instead of elsewhere (either form of elsewhere: outside the core or a rundown apartment/house in the core) are another form of demand.

But hey! That just provides more impetus for redevelopment of those other parcels as students move out of them because they no longer are financially self-sustaining. That's good for Austin and good for the street level environment of the area, as these newer developments are larger and better designed at the street level (even if sometimes also ugly as hell overall, like the above) than the older buildings they're replacing.

City Council signed off on a proposal to move the Dabney-Horne home from the site so this one is a go.

The new rendering was released shortly after approval because they probably didn't want to seem so arrogant as to release it before they knew they could build it as rendered. IMO.

Site plan with elevations. The height is 190 feet 1 inch to the mechanical penthouse. It has 18 occupied floors.
