Having grown up in Bedford (you can see my house on the map), you don't really appreciate all that's there until you've left. Things that were missed in these great pictures are the Bedford High School (about 120 years old) and the Bedford Common School (1859), which was in use as Pennsylvania's oldest school building until the late 1990s. It's still open to the public today.

Dunkle's Gulf Station is pictured in nearly every good book on roadside America.

And the Springs was open until the mid 1980s (closed around 1984) and minor celebrities would stay there even up until the end. I remember seeing tennis player Bobby Riggs by the pool in 1983. The golf course stayed in business even after the hotel stopped taking guests. The restoration was an incredible job and the hotel is beautiful today.
