This depiction of our Moncton skyline is not the best, it shows our massive and rampant surface parking areas even more. #notafan. Our best view is in Riverview on the Riverfront trail, where you can see some infill and density.

I agree about the surface parking, but I think the times are a changing', and that the future of the downtown core lies south of Main Street, and that the oceans of surface parking actually represent an ocean of opportunity.

This will begin along Downing Street, perhaps with a new RCMP headquarters and maybe with a new library and city market building. It will continue with phase three of Downing, including extension of the restoration project across Assumption onto the Riverfront Park, maybe with a new viewing platform over the Petitcodiac. A new street grid south of Main will encourage infill, both residential and commercial. Surface parking will be replaced by enclosed parking structures.

I'm firmly convinced the best is yet to come.........

Not really skylines, but Tammey Mclean‎ (runner of the Woodstock memories FB group) did a chopper tour over Woodstock, NB and shared the pictures she took while up there. Old Home Week was going on, so the Ayr Centre area is extra full.

With context in mind, SJ was a substantially more populated city than it is currently, which explains its built form. We have been losing people for decades although all past population projections showed the city would be home to about 200,000 by the 21st century...

It is one of the most "unique" skylines in Canada. Moncton has always reminded me of a smaller Oklahoma city.

The large phallus of Assumption Place has always bothered me too. It overpowers the other larger buildings in the city (and I dislike it's brutalist style). Things would look a whole lot different if we had 2-3 other buildings in the 10-15 storey range, but any new projects in the city seem to top out about 8-10 stories, which isn't enough to really influence the shape of the skyline. FiveFive Queen for example is a substantial development, yet is essentially invisible.

I agree. I'm growing fond of this style, although I always thought of Place Assomption as an International style building. BUT, I would consider the old city hall as a brutalist.

Indeed. There are always a view plane (or several) which seems to magnify a city's skyline.

Perhaps it is the sun at that angle, or a bit of touch up, but all chocolate is out of the river!
