I was surprised to see no one else had drawn the Nic so I'll put it on my plate, thanks! Hopefully we'll have a few more taller buildings to add to the diagram soon. I'm aware of three 700-900 footers on the drawing boards right now.

I'm just glad you have the ability. I'm afraid if I attemted it the diagram might look like a cardboard box when I'm done.

I'm looking forward to bumpin the big 3 for a couple of taller ones! If it happens the first round is on me!!

I know this has been repeated a few times, but what an exciting time to be living in this town.

Three! Are there that many companies looking to relocate to downtown Minneapolis from the suburbs and / or other cities?

Yes, three right now. But I'm also aware of three more that are still a ways out. Two of them are 1,000-footers. And no, I'm not making an April Fool's Day joke. Anything can go wrong with any of them so I'm hoping there's no jinxing here, but the odds are great that Minneapolis will have a new tallest soon.

Thanks Avian. Great news!!! I'm trying to get my kids to understand the type of growth that is going on right now. I'm trying to encourage them to start a scrap book to document all of the changes. My brother and I did that when we were in high school and it's a lot of fun to go back and see what was built and especially what wasn't built!

It is an impressive plan, but I think you might be talking about 2225 Lake St.

TCF won't survive many more years as an independent bank I would say. Citibank is looking to move into the MSP market.

The TCF building is where Ryan Companies was developing their supertall before the recession hit. Pickard Chilton were the architects. Who knows? With Ryan in the mix something interesting could still happen here. Business Journal called the location "one of, if not the, best sites in downtown Minneapolis."

As soon as I heard the news, that's what I thought. If someone wanted to put up a signature tower, this is about as good a spot as you'll find.

OK... But what about the "Foshay Tower" so close, some where talking about not building anything that is dominating! Not my opinion, but over at SSC! Hate to see businesses leave DT.... and the city.

^Like the old proposal from the 70's where it was planned to encase the Foshay Tower inside the atrium of a supertall.

Minneapolis has to get off their asses and start trying to market the city in a way to bring companies back in the city.... St. Paul also. Not just office users but all types of commercial. Mixed use towers are great for DT., but you got to have a few big office space users to eat-up space.

I don't know that people aren't committed to downtown Minneapolis. Wells Fargo is obviously making a big committment. Target, US Bank, Amperiprise, RBC, Larson Allen, etc. are all staying downtown. Target continues to make sure that the vendors that want to work with them office out of downtown. Be the Match is moving downtown. There are others that have and will move downtown. The addition of Mayo to Block E, the addition of the new stadium as well as new rail lines can only spur development.
TCF has been slowly moving out of downtown for the better part of a decade, this move is not a surprise to anyone. The only surprise is how they haven't folded up or been bought in the last ten or so years.
I think downtown is going to be fine. I actually think the influx of residents to the downtown area will only help spur growth as the worforce will slowly be taking some of those housing units.
