In conclution some parts may look the same but the feel and actual look is very different... atleast IMO
The view in that pic looks a lot like DC's Tidal Basin from the Jefferson Memorial.

Of course they are not twins and there are also big differences, but actually I think a lot of the residential architecture and neighborhood streetscapes are quite similar as well.

Today the oldest structure you'll see in any of my treads - the Great Ziggurat of Ur in Iraq

According to wiki it's a 4000yo place of worship for the Moon God Nanna

^Saddam the bastard deliberatly led all the water out of the marshes in the south starving the already strugling people and forcing them into he cities where there weren't exactly welcome

The water is being led back now, but it's a carefur process as some tribes have moved into the former waterbed areas, making it very dangerous to just open up everything... however the transfomation is stunning, from 2003 when I first arrived in the country to 2005 when I left after my second tour the hole Basra area had turn green and lush and in time all the old marches should come back bring wildlife and food with it..

Today the city Nice in Southern France ( yes that's it's name and a very fitting one )

Thanks - I got tons of pics form there, but I'm not sure how suited they are for this thread or the forum in general.. while there certainly is progress ( atleast in the south ) there isn't much beauty there to be honest...
