If Columbus's Continental wants to build something decent on the north shore, give us the North Bank Condo tower (In Columbus):

It would be perfect for people who work downtown.

Kossman has had a brochure on their website for a few years pertaining to the redevolopment of Parkway Center Mall:

I'm not too sure if they are still considering this plan or not.

According to this article from the Post Gazette, it seems they are willing to tear down the mall if an appropriate tenant comes aboard...

Parkway Center Mall developer plans large changes after loss of Kmart

Kmart's decision to pull out of Parkway Center Mall after the holidays has convinced the mall's owner to stop trying find a new tenant for the existing property and start from scratch on a redevelopment plan that could bring sweeping change.

The lots right next to Allegheny Station would be perfect for a cluster of such towers.

I'm kinda hoping a new tenant will come in; one that would make tearing down the mall pretty much inevitable. A LRT extension would be cool, but yea I'm not sure about the feasibility of that. Altho, if they want to extend it from S.H.J to Parkway Center, why not extend it to Settlers Ridge, Robinson, Moon, and then to the Airport. It would make more sense than building another river crossing under the Ohio River from Allegheny Station, at least from a feasibility standpoint...

Rail to parkway center would take many, many years. However even without rail, the location deserves more density.

Markson and Austinlee, you're right on about the scale of development necessary from the North Shore. Now with the T extension operational, let's build something that reflects the direct accessibility to the subway/light rail system. The North Side is now connected to Downtown via rail transportation. Development demand is likely to jump over the next decade or so, so we need to plan to accomodate that growth. Adding another floor for office use, yeah that will not cut it. We need to see some CBD-type development over here. Delmontie and Equitable went up prior to the breaking ground of the T extension. We need to see development of at least that scale if not more so. I guess nobody fully understands the whole concept of the impacts transit, particularly rail transit, can have on surrounding land uses and land development.

See also: the impact of Phoenix's light rail system, or even closer to home yet, what about the proposal for Mt. Lebanon? Attention City of Pittsburgh bureaucrats and land planning professionals affiliated with Pittsburgh development, I say stick to your forte, whatever that might be; urban planning surely as hell is not it!
What do you mean, "the proposal for Mt. Lebanon?"

I have seen a plan for Parkway Center that included a huge double deck garage. If they build it, it would be doomed from day one.
As someone who lives three blocks from Heinz Field, I can't think that too many people would want to live down on the Northshore. Between football games, baseball games, concerts at AE and fireworks on (what seems like) every other night during the summer, you wouldn't get much quiet time.

I'm not sure about that location. That's right next to Heinz Field. In between the stadium and the casino and the Science Center, right? Or am I thinking of a different location?

If so, I think I would hate to live right there, but maybe that's just me. Maybe I'm just not envisioning it in the same way you are. Aside from immediate access to the T, it almost seems too hemmed in by those large activity centers. Just seems like it would be a pain or totally desolate, depending on if there was a game or not.

Also, I know there have been plans to expand the Science Center for awhile now (I remember Jean Nouvel's plans were rejected due to huge cost about 10 years ago)... I think expansion would pretty much eliminate any chance for residential tower development on that lot.

Anyone remember this... or know about any future plans for the Science Center?

A spot that'd be great for a cluster of towers similar to Portland's South Waterfront would be the current wasteland between the Veteran's bridge & the Heinz lofts.

You forgot about the decking over the Mt. Lebanon T station with the intention of building a large development there? It was all over the PG and Trib a little while ago. I haven't read anything since then that would indicate it has fallen through or not materialized. I assume it's quitely in the works...

I live in Mt. Lebanon and haven't heard of that until now... there is a 7 story Marriot under construction right next to the T station though.

LOL! I'm so glad you posted that. I was searching for that image like a month ago and couldn't find that thing. It's kinda cool but also kinda hideous. Probably best that it wasn't built.

Anyone looking for a house on Mt Washington? I recommend this one, on the market now: 207 Bailey Ave. 4 bedrooms, 8 bathrooms. 4.2 mil. Check out the pics.

Allegheny Station is actually quite close to the Western Avenue business district, and of course the North Shore Riverfront Park is a great amenity. Meanwhile, a football stadium is actually a relatively unobtrusive neighbor as stadiums go.

Interesting! Any idea if and when this expansion will actually take place?

Looks like an addition to the casino...I'd rather they bring back Nouvel's design.
