The Falkoniergasse and Palais Kolle Belle projects are very interesting. It's nice that there still is courage to build blocks like that. Not everything has to be so sleek and glass&steel.

And the new U-Bahn stations are going to look very good too. Not as stylish as some stations are in Munich though.

Oh, and is the future of the Berliner Stadtschloss already clear?

A dream to be realized one day ? The future area near the Alexanderplatz:

The Cölln Fischmarkt with the new town hall constructed between 1710 and 1723 following Martin Grünberg's design. The Baroque Petrikirche is visible in the background (J.G. Rosenberg, 1784).

Showcasing Alt-Cölln

Archaeological excavations in this area reveal the vestiges of Alt-Cölln, one of the original settlements which constituted the medieval twin towns of Berlin and Cölln. The foundation walls of the Petrikirche, the town hall and the tombs of Cölln’s first residents remain embedded in the terrain. These testaments of the past are being scientifically examined and the finds recovered before the area undergoes redesign.

The exhibition illuminates the area's historical background and explains approaches to preserving archaeological landmarks. You will find information on the most recent finds and the supporting programme at the centre of the exhibition.

The plan foresees restoring the historic profile of Petriplatz and its perimeter structures, albeit with a contemporary design. Streets will be rerouted, utility lines relocated and new construction sites created to reclaim this urban space.

The exhibition provides information on urban development plans, projects for rearranging street layouts and the competition planned for reclaiming Petriplatz itself. The design of the square and green areas will incorporate traces of past epochs, i.e. the results of the excavations.

One thing keeps on bugging me: I never read any plans to renovate the watertower , it is always about integration.

The question remains: who owns that tower , the DB ?
