^That first shot with the bridges

From the Kennedy, as the crown comes to life, RP is really adding a new dynamic among its otherwise boring, flat-topped neighbors. I'm loving it.

What's going to be really impressive I believe is when they are finished with the crown, and in the same way the base reflects the river, boats, etc, the crown will be a slice of sky out of a curved panorama. Pretty sweet. This will be most noticeable from angles like the inbound Kennedy, or from the bridges.

Gibsons planning restaurant at River Point

Chicago-based Gibsons Restaurant Group plans to open a restaurant in River Point, a 52-story office tower under construction along the west bank of the river at 444 W. Lake St., the company confirmed.

Gibsons, which opened Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse in the Gold Coast in 1989, has a deal to take over the two-level restaurant space at River Point, which includes a second-floor outdoor terrace with expansive views of the river

Business execs must love river views.

Awesome news! I love Gibsons.

But could this area be hitting steakhouse critical mass?
Within just a half-mile radius centered in RiNo (approx. Grand and Dearborn) you have:

Chicago Chop House
Gene and Georgetti's
Flemings
Lawry's
Mastro's
Harry Caray's Steakhouse
Michael Jordan's Steakhouse
Ruth's Chris Steakhouse
Benny's Chop House
Chicago Cut Steakhouse
Kinzie Chop House
RPM Steak
Smith & Wollensky
Phil Stefani's
David Burke's Prime House
Capital Grille
Wildfire
Zed 451
Fogo de Chao
Shula's Steakhouse
Joe's Seafood and Prime Steak
Rural Society Argentine Steakhouse
Morton's Steakhouse
Texas de Brazil
Prime and Provisions
The Palm
Stetsons
McCormick and Schmick's

Brazzaz thankfully bit the dust and Keefers turned into that overrated Seafood place (C Chicago or whatever), but GT Prime is allegedly opening in the lower level of the beige turd-nugget at 707 N. Wells. Now we can add "Gibsons West" to the list.

I understand this is a dense area with many hotels. I understand that a lot of Chicago's out-of-towners, conventioneers, and residents would want to go out for a big hunk of meat, but it's getting to be ridiculous! There is a steakhouse bubble. There. I said it.

Spectacular shots, harryc, especially no. 5!

I took my first walk on Northerly Island today and was pleasantly surprised to see the very top of River Point sticking up above the skyline.

^^that last shot highlights a nice dialogue between River Point and the Jarta/Pilton building (convex/concave) that I never really appreciated before...

Got to check out the top floors of the site tonight. Lucked out with a crazy sunset, too. Here are a few iPhone snaps:

It'll probably take me a week to get through all my big camera frames...

Wow, how were you allowed to get pictures from a skyscraper under construction? Also, River North looks empty from the second shot with Streeterville towering over it.

River north has lots of projects in the works, but I agree it's actually unbelievable to see how much land Chicago actually has to build on.

Sweet mother of Pearl, Nick. Will you find a way to warn us before you post the big cam shots? We'll need to be sitting down for that. Might be some shortness of breath as well.
