Where is Sears?

I have a question for you Adrian: Do people in Chicago consider for the most part the JHC more beloved than Sears? I've noticed that Chicago forumers as a whole give the JHC more affection over Sears.

At resturants in Chicago. They'll have pictures of the Hancock and say how it's the most symbolic building of Illinois and all that. So I think the JHC is more important to chicagoans than the sears.

Well, Ohio Stadium is certainly superior architecturally, historically, and aesthetically to Michigan's bowl in the ground.

So there is nothing in Grand Rapids that qualifies?

No, not really. There are a few nice buildings like amway grand plaza and riverfront towers(I think) but they're nothing special.

California:

1. Golden Gate Bridge
2. Hollywood Sign

that's about it as far as structures go. the remainders (eg transamerica, googie architecture, case study homes, etc) define california cities better than they define california itself.

Just because you don't like the Sears Tower doesn't mean it doesn't identify your state. I think when most people think of Illinois they think of Chicago and then the Sears Tower.

Anyways, for Texas (these aren't in any order, just in the order I thought of them)

1. Texas State Capitol (Austin)
2. The Alamo (San Antonio)
3. Astrodome (Houston)
4. DKR Texas Memorial Stadium (Austin)
5. Johnson Space Center (Houston)
6. JPMorgan Chase Tower (Houston)
7. Tower of the Americas (San Antonio)
8. Williams Tower (Houston)
9. Interstate 35 (State-wide)
10. Dealey Plaza (Dallas)
11. River Walk (San Antonio)
