It could get very crowded . . . or not. I only live a block away so I'm thinking of walking over, but if it's such a mob I can't see anything or even get in the room, I'll probably leave and go look tomorrow.

First post, just because I'm so damn excited about this. I've been waiting for this day for a least a year and a half when the project was first announced. That said, as opposed to some of you on here, the team I am most excited about is Pelli's firm. I actually wrote them before the competing teams were selected, imploring them to enter the competition. I think SF needs a handsome tower to enhance the skyline, rather than a brash architectural statement to compete with the Transamerica Pyramid. My bet is that Pelli Clarke Pelli will be the ones to do it.

That said, Rodgers Partnership will most likely have the best terminal design (check out the awesome Barjas Airport as an example). I wonder if the authority would be willing to mix aspects of two of the proposals. Probably not, but it would make sense in a situation like this.

Oh, and SOM? They lost my faith after the St. Regis. It looks good from some angles, but one of my favorite views from the Metreon/Yerba Buena has now been forever altered by that squat ziggurat.

See you tonight!

^^^Media setting up a camera out front of City Hall--ominous for a crowd. I'm thinking seriously of Tivoing the Channel 26 coverage and then checking out the models/renderings or whatever is presented tomorrow.

caramatt, you and I may be alone about the St. Regis, but I very much agree with you. As far as mixing proposals, I do think that whatever proposal gets accepted will not be built is presented tonight. SF's process has a strong history of "massaging" architecture into mediocrity. Hopefully they won't do that, but I'm sure they will modify whatever design is accepted and if one or the pother team doesn't win but has some really good ideas, those could get stolen.

Sorry, I haven't followed this thread closely, but have these renderings been shown before? They were on Richard Roger's website for the Transbay project.

Again, there are a ton more on the site.

That's a great tower and matches perfectly with the Golden Gate and the water. I'm hoping for at least 1300' though!

So at a first quick view my thoughts say, the first tower looks wonderfully elegant, and the station design looks like a fantastic curiosity.

Richard Rogers design for the both the tower and station I havent really warmed up to yet.

The third looks to be elegant and very bold at the same time.I'd say based on these images, its my favorite. Although the station in the first offering looks just awesome!

This has certainly made my evening, and got me very excited!

Although I admire it from an architecture perspective, I don't think Richard Rogers tower fits in with the rest of the cityscape, so I'd like to see either the first or third towers built!

The SOM entry is pretty impressive. Other than that one, I can't say I'm that impressed.

Looks like we're getting a 12- 1300 footer, unless huge swaths of NIMBYs show up organized.

Based on just these renderings, my vote goes for Pelli Clarke Pelli. It is simple and elegant, and would match perfectly with the simplistic grace of TAP. Of course, I haven't thoroughly seen the terminal layouts of this one, so my opinion could change if the others have better terminal designs.
