You may be right. Although he still is one of its highest-paid employees for sure - many hundreds of thousands.

Of course, his couple of minutes on Coach's Corner is probably the highest rated portion of the entire CBC complement of programming, so there you go...

Who the hell finds Don Cherry amusing anymore? He is a revolting caricature of the fugly rednecked truck-driving angry-anglo-canadian version of Rush Limbaugh.

I stopped watching this grotesquely-overpaid bag of wind years ago. And his suits are so fucking ugly. Christ, I think I'd rather see my taxdollars fund Peter McKay's fishing trips than go towards the bombastic bum.

They have a bake sale.

Don Cherry's salary could buy a shitload of baked goods let me tell you!!!

Replace the word "Cold FX" with "Support our veterans". I think Don Cherry would be a natural once he gets past his "caring about other people is gay" phase!

I refer to him as The Bitchy Chesterfield. Except that Chesterfield typically chose more aesthetically pleasing patterns for their couches.

The salaries of Don Cherry, Peter Mansbridge, and George Str...lous have not been publicly disclosed. Globe and Mail estimated that Don Cherry's salary is approximately $800,000.

Trim the fat!

Someof the big names mentioned are the draw for an audience.
Are they worth a big salary? Maybe maybe not.
But I would look to trim some of the abundant layers of executive offices.
As for service members in need contact the Military Family Resource centre or the Legion/DVA.

The MFRCs and Legions are all supported primarily by donations, not government funding. The government doesn't fund that kind of thing because it considers its military personal to be useless once they're done combat operations.

once cbc loses hockey night in 2 years time to bell and rogers I think there is going to be serious talk of weather cbc tv should still exist when they will have no more large audiences I mean Suzuki and Rex Murphy just won't pull the people in.

Carry the torch!

Steven and Chris may have to step up and save the day. Not to slag them as I remember them from designer guys and like their projects.
Just noticed hockey on all day today and they are pitted against Philly vs Pittsburg game. good luck in the ratings.
Go CBC.

...me. Primarily because he is so outrageous. Normal sports commentators are bland and boring, and they all have the same annoying tone. But the Cherry has a different annoying tone. He doesn't care at all about what comes out of his mouth. And pairing him with MacLean (aka straight man) makes for an almost surreal kind of chemistry.

Taking Don Cherry away from Hockey Night in Canada would sort of be like taking Jeremy Clarkson away from Top Gear. It just wouldn't work. You need the bombastic orangutan.

Jeremy Clarkson is actually funny, Don Cherry isn't and I don't think hes trying to be. Hes a sports broadcaster not a comedian.

I'd take the concerns about CBC's funding more seriously if Sun Media wasn't harping on it so much. As far as I'm concerned, Sun Media is just being a five-year-old whining to his teacher (the public) about one of his classmates (the competing CBC). I get really sick of constantly seeing "CBC Money Drain" articles in the Sun-owned London Free Press.

Its Fox News North, its complete trash and should be viewed as such. Last I heard the new Sun television network was failing in ratings anyway.

Not the only pony in town

Sun News Network wins Freedom Award 1

FIRST POSTED: WEDNESDAY, APRIL 25, 2012 11:19 AM MDT | UPDATED: WEDNESDAY, APRIL 25, 2012 11:30 AM MDT Calgary Sun.

Sun News Network was presented with the Arthur Meighen Freedom Award on April 24. The award is given annually by the Canadian Centre for Policy Studies to a person or organization making an outstanding contribution to free speech.

Someone likes them. They had the nerve to question why the charitable organization David Suzuki Foundation has lobbyists for political reasons.

sun Media at least runs on their own dime. CBC is public funds and should be more unbiased. Report the News not Liberal like opinion.

The Canadian Centre for Policy Studies is a conservative think tank. They were rewarding Sun Media for being biased.

Most of the "free speech" that Sun News seems to exercise is just broadcasting ignorance to the ignorant.

Sun News Network does have a niche market. When I was working in sales last year for a cable company, quite a few customers were asking how they could get Sun News.

.
I love how you slip your opinions on irrelevant issues into your posts, assuming that noone will challenge them. Nobody spends charitable funds on political issues like the Christian churches, which also claim charitable status.
