+1 for Inuit Art Centre, +2 likely for the TNS hotel and residence

all of us have been waiting for what seems like an eternity to have a tower crane back at portage and main and it has finally happened! such a psychological barrier for this city I think.

I'm not overly fluent in crane specifications, but that seems like a fairly large tower crane. Very long jib....could just be the photos though.

^ Is it that long so as to be also able to service the lowrise development between the two towers?

IMO the answer would be no. That seems like too far of a distance to reliably be serviced by this crane. The lifting power would be too week.....and there would be a 42 storey tower in the way.

....I probably should have started with that second part first...makes the most sense.

Yesterday the smaller crane was carrying the large end pulley with the hook that you see on the jib now, plus another larger piece that must have weighed 1 tonne. They moved them from one side of the lot to the ground on Fort and they clipped the hydro lamp pole in front of the entrance as they lowered the hook to the ground. It wobbled about a foot in each direction for a minute and I thought it was going to land on the MarWest truck parked there.

Then the spotter and the crane operator had a meeting. Hope they get their signals straight for the rest of the building.

I lost. I knew I was wrong when I saw the steel laid out on the roof where the crane is now. I have no idea how they build around the crane. The roof must be solid.

There is an elevator core, the NW one, that has no cut-out for a door on any of the parking levels. There is a small opening to this core on P3 and they have some pipes running water in the cores.

I think so. They are building both buildings at the same time.. Yesterday they started framing the roof over the sky-light opening of WS. It's half covered now.

The always wondered how they get a crane together and after seeing it yesterday it seems so easy, "why didn't I think of that". They just have to trust the cables. The top cables are pretty thick. The worker who reached out to grab the first piece when it was 3 feet away from the tower sort of scared me.

I saw that walking through there this morning. I guess Winnipeg Square as we know is changing forever...
