It's probably more of artists (or their management) just all together excluding the Memphis market from touring.

EPE should just not accept the TIF funding. Problem solved, build your venue and finance it privately. This actually sounds like an excuse to request additional TIF funding.
I figure MSG is the busiest.

Bridgestone gets the shows due to the industry folk there.

When anything gets the TIF gifts why would EPE forsake it. It seems nothing gets built without it much anymore.

Yes, they each have a major primary tenent. The NBA and the NHL each play a 82 game regular season with some preseason games. So that's around 45 to 46 dates right there. Then add in the U of M games that can be +/- 20 games a year.

Like EPE said, the Landers Center and Southhaven's outdoor amp are the ones that would feel the brunt of this not the Forum. And... All of that is because of forsaking the MSC and Mud Island. Why the Grizzlies couldn't handle the bookings of those as part of the original deal is beyond me. I completely understood the Pyramid angle. They could have scheduled any half house shows at the FEDEX Forum when dates permitted.

Aloft Hotel a Construction Permit Filed

Memphis Daily News:
Quote:
Mississippi-based Vibrant Hotels Inc. has filed an $8 million building permit application to begin construction on its 155-room hotel in the Tenoke Building at Jefferson Avenue and B.B. King Boulevard.

The application calls for the demolition of an existing structure; site improvements; and the additions of a swimming pool, restaurant, kitchen, signage, penthouse level and “top area bar.”

JiJi Construction is listed as the contractor, while Design Studio @ MNT and PSE Design were tapped to handle the design work.

Vibrant, an affiliate of Batesville, Mississippi-based development company JVD Enterprises, received Memphis City Council approval in December to redevelop the 12-story Tenoke Building, 161 Jefferson Ave., into an Aloft Hotel, a boutique brand owned by Starwood Hotel & Resorts Worldwide. Development plans also call for the partial demolition of an adjacent one-story office building to provide for the hotel’s canopy check-in area and corner signage.

On Tuesday, Nashville-based owners Epiq Hotels, operating under the name MNR Hospitality LLC, have added a new signage along the building’s exterior that lay out their plans.

The words “Opening 2019” can be seen next to a rendering of the soon-to-be Fairfield Inns and Suites. The new signage also names the project’s contractors as Cleveland Construction and Pinnacle South as the financier.

Are those aluminum composite panels? Wondering if the funky design will look dated in 5 years though.

I don't get this one. American covered that pretty well.and is beefing up it's TATL at PHL.

They added San Diego to Tulsa, I would have much rather seen something like that or to San Jose CA
.
If you want the take the kids to Hershey Park, it's a fairly easy drive as is a cool park called Knoebel's. It's also a backdoor to New York with a train ride thrown in.

Anyhoo, I think this will boost MEM's frieght numbers

A New Aloft Rendering

High Ground News:
Quote:
The 156-room Aloft, which is a Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide brand, will feature penthouse suites, a restaurant and bar called WXYZ, banquet space a private viewing theater, state-of-the-art exercise facilities and a rooftop restaurant and bar.

“Aloft is a great brand with a very contemporary style. It attracts millennials and a younger crowd, and we think is a good fit for the downtown market,” said Vaghela.
The adjacent one-story building at 191 Jefferson Avenue will be torn down, and a new one-story building will be built in its place to be merged with the Tenoke Building to create a new address at 63 B.B. King Boulevard.

“We will also have some retail space in the new single-story building,” said Vaghela. “The Tenoke Building is in very good shape. The inside is nice and clean.”

Byhalia-Miss.-based JiJi Construction LLC will be the general contractor, and Buffalo-based MWT Architects created the floor plans.

Vibrant filed an $8 million building permit application late September, and Vaghela hopes to have approval in the November. He expects to be able to start construction by the end of November or early December.

If Brooks does opt to move from Overton Park to another part of the city, where exact could they go?

Looks like they may end up downtown on Front.

More details on the proposed aquarium projects on Mud Island:

'Full-scale' aquarium plans revealed!
Michelle Corbet
Reporter, Memphis Business Journal

https://www.bizjournals.com/memphis/...-aquarium.html

Quote:
As part of a presentation to Memphis City Council members, Tuesday, Oct. 17, Paul Young, the city's Housing and Community Development director, said the city is planning to add an aquarium and museum that would draw on the natural assets of the Mississippi River.

The aquarium would utilize the existing Mud Island parking garage and scale model of the Mississippi River.

The presentation also included a "cultural center" at the Monroe fire station.

This is getting closer, I still think an architecturally pleasing open air covering for the Amp along with corporate boxes, club/loge seating area would help. The new museum could feature that Disney Style Soarin' attraction that takes you on a flight down the Mississippi. I would include salt water life from the Gulf as well. AFTER just visiting Mr. Bass Pro's new Aquarium in Springfield, this screams partnership with him. Too bad The Moody Aquarium in Galveston got first dibs on the Pyramid designs.

Like I have said numerous times, Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen should be the basic blueprint of Mud Island. It's a mix of all kinds of attractions from classical Music Hall, Ballet, (see nearby Cannon Center)an open air pantomime theater, Aquarium, outdoor concerts and rides. The mix is strikingly similar to what could happen on and near Mud Island. Somee tastefully done rides on the northern end where the Memphis Belle and playground once was would really round this out and a Christmas Market could be the cherry on top.

Nothing on Mud Island should detract from the river, and that, IMO, is exactly what this does.

Mud Island does not need a statement piece.

I do agree somewhat, unless.... there's another building structure in the future for Mud Island.

If it goes this direction, then it shouldn't stand out. But I doubt it. (old concept)

TraVure Developer Unveils New East Memphis Project
By Patrick Lantrip/Memphis Daily News

https://www.memphisdailynews.com/new...mphis-project/

"Known as The Grove at White Station, the new office/retail development will be located on S. White Station Road just north of Poplar Avenue.
Currently, five residential properties sandwiched between an Orion Bank branch and the Girl Scouts Heart of the South Council Headquarters are located on the site, and Gill’s new development hopes to tie the area together with its walkable neighborhood-level retail components.
“If you can make the whole block pedestrian friendly, it’s the most dynamic mixed-use block in all of East Memphis,” Brown Gill said."

Mississippi (Tunica) might be gearing up for a brand new water park

http://www.fox13memphis.com/top-stor...park/649372507

I don't think too many people know the news on this. I haven't seen any local news articles mention it, or post it.
If it wasn't for me coming home and catching the end of the news I wouldn't known it, or heard anything else from it.
But long time coming.

I always felt that Tunica should have had an amusement park type of attraction down there,
especially when I hear the word "Resort" in their marketing.
A Six flags type of thing. (Six Flags over Mid-South or Delta)

The Gaming industry isn't the same as it was in the 90's down there, but bringing other things like this to their market
can definitely boost that and other developments in Tunica.
I just always thought Tunica should have capitalized more other than Gaming. While it's still one of the largest
gambling districts in the country, it could build around still today.

A park almost happened from what I found. There's a few online pieces on that. I wasn't aware of development news then,
but I wonder what kept this one from going? (http://msbusiness.com/2000/06/rumors...desoto-county/)

This recent news link touches on Tunica's push to strive more years.... http://wreg.com/2017/11/14/tunica-th...ars-to-return/
