No, it has proven to be not sustainable and much driven by speculators. That is why photographers like myself and others are working on projects such as the book -Miami the Magic City and I am working on my own special project, which must remain a secret for the time being. If I can't get a developer or tourism agency to finance it, I will cash in some of my own vacation time to produce it.

Thanks! So many people from other threads and websites want to put it down for no real reason. Having lived under the skylines of Los Angeles and San Francisco, I've dreamed of Miami having a decent skyline for over 20 years. Some statisticians are even placing the Miami skyline third behind New York and Chicago in terms of the number of tall buildings that have made it to construction thus far.

Wow! Miamimania ! I don't think I've seen a city's skyline transformed in such a dramtic way in such a relatively short period of time. It was a beautiful city to look at before, but now its as exciting to view as New York & Chicago. Thanks for your effort and expense in sharing these pictures.

It is a dramatic difference over 5-6 years ago. How many of these new towers are fully occupied? I assume many foreigners are scooping up the overstock of units on the market.

I spend most of the time in SkyscraperCity where I created the QuantumPX thread, but then another Miami forumer who belongs to both websites suggested that I create a pictures thread here as well. Yes, it is amazing how much made it to construction in the time that it did. Most of what you see happened in the past three years.

I don't think any of the new towers is fully occupied as of yet. They are just that new, and yes, with a strong Euro against a weak dollar, most of the overstock is being scooped up by foreign investors. I would say between now and the next national election is the time to buy if you're a foreign investor.

So no one here is going to like what I’m going to say but just to ruffle some feathers I’m going to say it anyway. What a bunch of ugly architecturally insignificant towers. So many buildings built today have no time effort or passion put into them and are just the work of a giant cookie-cutter

"Being that all of these photos are mine, I am compelled to add at this point that a digital photograph is copyrighed by law from the moment it is taken by the photographer as the photographer possesses the memory card as proof of its origin. Any use of a photographer's pictures for monetary gain entitles the photographer to a share of the profits"

......... honestly .... what is with the legal disclaimer ? .... do people ACTUALLY sell your photos for profit ?

Not trying to bust balls .... just curious.

I didnt say you couldnt find another like it. I'm saying look at the detail on this building built in the 1890's

compared to these built in 200bla

I'm not trying to make this a north vs south or a buffalo vs miami debate. I'm just saying I hate a lot of modern architecture and how cheap it looks. All over the world

Welp, all you need to do to change this is encourage artisans, bricklayers, carpenters and masons to agree to work for a loaf of bread and a shanty for their efforts as they were expected to in 1890. Also find unlimited resources of lavish materials easily mined or cut down as they seemed to be in 1890. Then you'd see developers, owners and archictects suddenly seeing an economically feasible way to build that type of thing for your basic offices and residential. Yet, it still wouldn't fit Miami. Nothing says "sunny beach resort" less than that stuff.

I understand what you're saying though. There is something almost plastic and snap-together with the way buildings are built today. I even notice a difference in the way buildings were built in the 70s as compared to the 90s and today. There does seem to be something plastic about it.

No, I don't know of anybody selling the pics for profit, but what I stated above is something many people don't know. I didn't even know it until I researched it, so I'm just making people aware of the fact.

It is still a pretty good representation of how things have changed though. Is that from the Flamingo? I lived at what is now the Mirador. It was called Forte Towers 10 years go. This first one here was taken from the little park next to the Waverly a couple of weeks ago.

I'm sorry, but I missed this post at first. Yes, Miami is now statistically 3rd behind New York and Chicago in terms of the number of tall buildings that have made it to construction thus far.
