So, excluding the erroneous reference to “The Summit”, the Lush pop-up will likely be at CF Champlain.

I know a lot of people on social media really want Lush to come to Moncton. I suggest these people go out of their way to patronize this pop-up to show their support. This sort of action works. Lululemon began in Moncton as a seasonal pop-up before becoming a full fledged store. The same thing could happen for Lush.........

Driving home from work last night, snapped a couple of photos on the iPhone.

Pomodori sign was just painted on the West side wall. Illumination are the overhead lights.

TireShack Brewing Co. had all their outdoor lights turned on. Too bad the indoor lights were off because they look really nice. I drive by here every night. I'll need to come back here with the real camera and snap another one.

I'm happy that both of these places are opening soon. However, it's another couple of black and shades of grey buildings. Someone needs to add a splash of colour!

I mean technically there's a very colorful mural on the back of the Tire Shack building

Black and grey's are the in colors now. They have been for a while, and lots of people love that color scheme. Can't see it going away anytime soon, although I do believe it's more popular with the younger crowd, like 35 and younger.

Anyhow, expect to see more of these colors around, as we have been seeing an increase of these color buildings, like 55 Queen for example. Blacked out motorcycles, cars, SUV's, etc., have also been in style for a good decade. Also black and other shades of grey's are the most popular paints and room colors right now as well.

The pictures of the finished Hyatt Place on Main street also show black on the exterior. Similar to what's on the 55 Queen building. From looking at the building, it seems like they should be just about ready to start installing the black panels.

Bouclair Home has filed for bankruptcy protection. They have a store at Wheeler Park.

(Edit: just noticed Blue Blazer posted about it before I did, whoops lol)

It appears that the Fredericton location might be closing because the Fredericton store (as well as the Halifax store) no longer shows up on their website. So I would assume that these two locations will be closing then. Only the Moncton store shows up. The St.John's Newfoundland location also shows up on their website.

So from what I've gathered is that the Moncton and St.John's Newfoundland locations will remain open. The other two (Halifax and Fredericton) will be closing here in Atlantic Canada.

Apparently there is a new ownership group planning on taking over, but they are using the bankruptcy ploy to make it easier to close unprofitable locations. As DyAm00394 astutely noted above in this post from the Fredericton thread, the Moncton store may be safe. Locations in both Fredericton and Halifax no longer show up on the corporate website.

Tire Shack brewing was very busy tonight despite the fact they haven't even posted publicly that they are open

The space is amazing and they've integrated the Auto Shop theme nicely but it still has a nice modern decor. They have a separate room that will house merch and beer to go

The beers are amazing, including a marsh mellow stout that is served with a roasted marshmellow serve over top. They are focusing on 5 beers right now, 2 of which are available in cans. The owner said they are waiting until January to put the cans in NBLC so they can draw customers to their brewery first.

This place is going to do very well.

New Brunswick seeks private operator to take over retail cannabis
Recreational cannabis sales haven't lived up to projections from a year ago

So, there are three Cannabis NB stores in greater Moncton and stores in both Sackville and Shediac. That's five stores serving a population of about 180,000. How many of these stores will survive after the private takeover?

Personally, the only store I see as being absolutely safe is the one at the Mapleton Centre. What do other people think?

In Fredericton, there's no Cannabis NB store at downtown which is weird. Do you guys have a downtown store?

In Alberta, there will be 300+ stores. I do hope we'll get that. But then again, it's going to be a private monopoly.

No downtown store, no, unless you consider the Main Street Superstore "downtown".

A new private monopoly could go any number of directions here. We have 20 corporate Cannabis NB stores in the province, which is too many IMHO. We could probably get by with half that number, and it would be an easy way to cut down overhead costs to make the corporation profitable.

The big question is what the new Cannabis NB will do to deal with the illegal dispensaries? It is possible they could try and co-opt them by making them partners (licensees) in the sales of cannabis. This way, Cannabis NB could keep a small number of corporate stores in the cities, but have the dispensaries look after distribution within smaller neighbourhoods and communities.

From the way things were worded today it doesn't sound like that will be happening.

CNB is leasing some of these stores at $60 sq.ft. That's some pricey real estate.
I don't know the terms of their leases, but I would bet PNB is locked in for several years at that price with no way out of the lease. If that's so, whoever ends up winning the RFP is gonna have to eat that cost.
Again, I don't know how long their leases are. The price, however, is factual. Some Liberal landlord I suspect will be laughing as he tees off tomorrow morning from his Florida golf course.

The NB Government...the only people that could make selling weed not profitable!

So we decided to try The Tire Shack Brewing Co last night and it was not bad. The below sample tray cost $13. I was going o copy paste the beer names from their Facebook page onto here, but now I can't find it.

From far right to left, the clearest beer was my fav b/c it was the closest to traditional regular beer. It was called the Specialist.

My brother liked that dark stout looking beer, it was called the Marshmellow something something. Yes, that's a toasted marshmellow on top.

The other three were a little too bitter and hoppy for my taste buds.

Atmosphere is pretty nice except, it's LOUD!. There was about 75 people and with the open air concept with no sound absorbing panels, it was hard on the ears. They cranked up the music a little and it just made things worst. Fix that problem and you get all thumbs ups from me!

We chit chatted with one of the owners and she was very nice.

CBC Marketplace just had a show about noisy restaurants

Maybe I'm just old and crotchety but I can't stand a restaurant where I need to yell to have a conversation.

I agree 100%. I avoid bars with live bands for this very reason. I usually like to have a conversation over some beers. Not yelling at someone and asking them to repeat themselves 10 times.

Also agree. You only have one chance to make a first impression. For me it isn't enjoyable if it's too loud to carry on a normal conversation. We went to Gahan House a couple of weeks ago and were blown away by the atmosphere. It was packed, people were enjoying themselves and we had a great time. Really good first impression. We're going back again Friday night.

From Mayor Dawn Arnold's Facebook page:

Quote:
a great announcement: LUSH will have a pop-up store, open Dec 4-24 in the Gérald-Leblanc Park in front of Moncton City Hall (https://www.lush.ca/en/home)!
So, the holiday pop-up store for Lush will be in the park in front of city hall.

I wish them well, but I find this an odd location. If Lush were really attempting to test the Moncton market prior to opening a full service permanent location, I feel strongly that they should have opened a kiosk at CF Champlain instead. Their permanent store locations are almost always mall based (with some high street locations in larger cities), so I don't think a mobile location in a park in December in Moncton will give a fair appraisal of the strength of the Moncton market.

I am pretty sure a mall based pop-up would generate more traffic than a trailer in a park in front of city hall..........
