I don't think he's saying these are commonly accepted nicknames (e.g. Big Stan), but rather that it has evoked being dubbed various nicknames in a grassroots sense given its unique form (i.e. people conversing among friends while walking past, and then maintaining that moniker in future discourse).

Maybe it's similar to how 1000 S Michigan has been called "Big Jahn", a playful appropriation of "Big John" Hancock Center. Although if Jahn's rendering for the Thompson Center replacement gets built, that would certainly usurp the title.

I have heard it referred to as a tuning fork before, but not guillotine.

Haha. I guess he must read this forum. I was maybe one of the first here to criticize 150 as derivative of the Abu Dahbi buildings but I was wrong in my earlier opinion as to how the finished product would look. The massing is better and the cladding came out really well. It is a good looking tower.

I just read on the interwebs that construction at the hotel at 123 E Cermak is currently on hold, pending testing of all the caissons. They found an issue with a few of them. We might not see Michaels out on any new job sites for a while.

Interesting... The JHC also had caisson issues back in the day.

Yeah, contemporary art has no place in Chicago. We need more Brand Plazas, Chicubs...

^ I like that art display, my only criticism being the patches of concrete they stand on. They should've been depicted walking on the grass.

^But part of the work is for viewers to circulate among the torsos, feeling small and insignificant, like a child in a crowded marketplace. Imagine how barren and muddy the site would be if the torsos were wandering in actual grass.

Chicubs, I agree in part. An installation about the cubby hole by Jenny Holzer would be far better.
