Weimar is a village. only 60.000 people. But it has such an importance in the German (and international) culture and is rich in architecture. The city of Goethe, Schiller, Bach, Liszt, the Weimar Republic and the Bauhaus movement. not too bad for such a small town!
Today it is a lovely touristic destination, with a + : it's cheap, not crowded, not tourist-trapish at all. it's like walking in a model. everything is so perfect, spotless, with the memories of so many great artists, scientists and philosophers. the «German Athens».
physically, it has been totally saved from the wars and the soviet urbanism.
