Textures are coming along great - true sense of realism.

This model excites me. I remember the feeling of awe which I experienced back when SimCity 3000 was released and I saw the screen shots of it for the first time. Looking at your model brings back some of those feelings. The realism makes the whole thing feel fresh and alive.

The realism is the roof! Yes fine texturing Vellu, roofs and services on roofs really help on the realism front, the trees look good too. Whats it like closer up, my problem was the textures always broke down in resolution on closer inspection.

Vellu, your textures are amazing! Your work motivates me to put more time into Staunton. I can't model as quickly as I used to because I would try and make each block as detailed as possible and that simply takes much more time. But seeing how well done Bourne is turning out really makes me want to complete Staunton. The little doors on the backsides of the buildings, the roof details, it's so perfect!

Well, these textures look like crap up close. They're made out of Bing Maps bird's eye view images, so they are really low res. I'm still gonna keep on doing street level scenes as well, but I won't use the same textures as I use for these aerials. The texture for the close-up will be made of an image of the same building, but not from Bing Maps but instead from Google Street View image. It's a lot of extra work - especially in terms of finding a good candidate building for the texture - but hopefully it's worth it. We'll see how it looks on the next update, as I'm now ready to recreate the first scene.

Glad to hear this! Actually Staunton - and Sta Fee - were the two main motivators for me to change my approach towards more photoreal textures.

Here is the Bourne Arena re-textured and renamed to VanAlen Center, after its main sponsor. Completed in 1998, it is the home to Bourne Demons of the American Hockey League, an AHL affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League.

Brilliant, love the arena. I would say your texturing is as good if not better than Sta Fee's, it was the one thing that i was disappointed about with that city. I hope you do find time and patience to employ higher res textures for street level views, as such angles can really help to make the city 'real'.

Wow, amazing Vellu!

The rendering is suburb, and the modeling is just out of this world!

Thanks for the comments, Pingyao and Flamesrule!

I've recreated the first scene. The original caption is still valid:
"A view looking northwest on West Adams Street. This area, just a few blocks north of downtown, was once an integral part of the main business core, but it was cut off of it in the early 1960's with the completion of the Lake Ontario Freeway. It has lacked development since."

Magnificent , I'm lapping up that render dude! The projections in the buildings facade really help on the realism front and loving the grass!

Is that a straight from Sketchup render or have you tweaked in Photoshop? My one post pro comment would be to push the contrast slightly.

Yes, there's some contrast issues and I tried to do something about it in PS, but my skills weren't enough. The biggest problem comes from the high-poly car parked in front of that not so high-res textured building. In the future I must be more careful in placing the car models and choosing the color for them to avoid the biggest contrast problems.

Re-texturing process continues...

Awesome work, Vellu!! Really impressive renderings! The contrast and the gritty look of the details is absolutely stunning and really gives off a photorealistic appearance in the renderings. It's great watching this city grow and expand, thank you for posting!

Looking good dude! Are the air-conditioning equipment on that roof on the lower building polygon modelled or is it a texture, it looks very convincing.
