I've shown a lot of Hamilton neighbourhoods, but I rarely venture onto "the mountain"
(as it is affectionately known to Hamiltonians). Concession Street is Hamilton Mountain's
oldest commercial district. The Concession Street area features many eclectic shops,
Henderson Hospital and a major cancer centre, as well as some nice homes and condos
overlooking the mountain brow. I've also thrown in the odd obligatory view of the lower
city.

I'm really liking the looks of Hamilton from your numerous threads, flar. I guess it's just familiar to me, having grown up on the Great Lakes. I always have just driven by on my way to Toronto, but your photos have convinced me to definitely stop next time, or better yet, make a trip to Hamilton specifically. I love the shots showing the fall colors and that's gotta be the first time I've ever seen a VW beetle cop cruiser.

Hamilton is sick. Are there homes with phat views down in to the "lower city" almost like living in the *gasp* Hollywood Hills...

Damn Hamilton is really nice. Needs better tall architecture though on its mid and high rises, but no city is perfect.

Like the pedestrian friendly nature and it looks like plenty of people are out and about.

definately the most Pedestrian-Friendly hood on the Mountain!!
I have friends that live off the strip, and am constantly around here.

I think it's funny you took a picture of this wall...
everytime I walk by it, I'm scared it's going to fall on me! haha You can't really tell in this pic, but it seems as though the wall is tilting towards the street!

I spent a lot of time in this hood, went to Queensdale, Armstrong and Sherwood school, which is all near Concession St. I used to grab a blizzard at Dairy Queen during lunch breaks. Spent A LOT of time at the bowling alley. Good times good times!

When the Movie Palace opened up after renovations I took my grandma there as she grew up along Concession St and went to the place a lot during her teen years. So it was special and brought a lot of memories for her. Great to have old movie theatres restored.

Wow, I'll have to go to that theatre sometime, just to take in the retro look. Do they play older or independent films there? Because I can't sit through the latest Hollywood stuff.

They play old movies and new movies. When Harry Potter came out rencently they encouraged people to dress up based on the movie, the best get free tickets to the movie.

Some really nice older houses shown... including this one. However, is that police tape I see around the porch? Not really selling the city/area when you show a picture of a crime scene.



I love the idea behind the Movie Palace, but the bathrooms are really tacky looking. And those seats make it look more like a church than it does a movie theatre.

That's one of the cool things about Hamilton, so many distinct neighbourhoods. Concession Street, Westdale and Downtown Dundas are full service shopping areas, with restaurants, banks, services and shopping. Old Town Stoney Creek is a little smaller. Other areas are more specialized like Locke Street South (Antiques) and Ottawa Street (Fabric and Textiles). Others are mostly depressed, like Barton Village, the Delta, and Kenilworth Ave. The downtown area has many nice little areas too, International Village, James North, Corktown or Hess Village.

^^That building is under construction. It doesn't look that nice IMO, but the condos in it cost $1 million.

Those houses may have a bit of southern influence. This part of Hamilton used to be known as "Little Africa" as many slaves escaped here via the underground railroad. I didn't know there were any rowhouses on the mountain, so I was a bit surprised to see them.
