I’m no math guru but for some reason if you plug the numbers into that calculator separately the combined distances are actually higher. Specifically, if you strapped yourself to the tip of the Freedom Tower’s spire you could see 51.6 miles to the horizon while someone standing on the top of CTC’s lantern can see 41 miles, a total of 92.6 miles, so at 80 miles you could theoretically see each other.
More realistically though, the observation deck in the Freedom Tower is 1254 feet & the restaurant at CTC is somewhere around 900ish? So from those vantage points you’re looking at 43.4 & 36.8 respectively or around 80 miles.
Here's the bottom line, I think if we present these findings to Mr. Roberts he'd clearly have no choice but to build Comcast III with an observation deck at around 3000 feet which would no doubt solve all these problems. Seems perfectly valid to me.
