It could be more behind Two Liberty just out of the shot but at the very least behind One Liberty.

You can't see it in that photo. FMC is on Walnut Street which is out of view in that frame.

Impossible!
I recall looking towards Philly from the observation deck atop of the World Trade Center about 16 years ago and not seeing anything.

16 years ago the top of Philadelphia's skyline was roughly 200 feet shorter. I doubt it, but it's more like now than then.

I don't think so, at least until they build some taller buildings. NYC & Philly are close to 100 miles from each other, the two tallest buildings combined are 2897 feet high (Freedom Tower's spire at 1776 feet & CTC at 1121 feet). The curvature of the earth at that height allows you to see about 66 miles to the horizon.

From the Wikipedia 'horizon' page:

"an observer standing at the top of the Burj Khalifa (828 metres (2,717 ft) in height), the horizon is at a distance of 103 kilometres (64 mi)."

Closer than that, I think.
According to this (freemaptools.com), the distance between the comcast center and one WTC is more like 80 miles as the crow flies

and that might do it

I’m no math guru but for some reason if you plug the numbers into that calculator separately the combined distances are actually higher. Specifically, if you strapped yourself to the tip of the Freedom Tower’s spire you could see 51.6 miles to the horizon while someone standing on the top of CTC’s lantern can see 41 miles, a total of 92.6 miles, so at 80 miles you could theoretically see each other.

More realistically though, the observation deck in the Freedom Tower is 1254 feet & the restaurant at CTC is somewhere around 900ish? So from those vantage points you’re looking at 43.4 & 36.8 respectively or around 80 miles.

Here's the bottom line, I think if we present these findings to Mr. Roberts he'd clearly have no choice but to build Comcast III with an observation deck at around 3000 feet which would no doubt solve all these problems. Seems perfectly valid to me.

I'm currently in Alaska and I can clearly see mt. Denali from 250 miles away. Sure it's 20k feet up, but still pretty cool.

Is that right? If you're in New York at 1254' you're ONLY able to see 43.4 miles, so to somewhere around Princeton/West Windsor? And if you're in Philly at 900' feet you'd still ONLY be able to see 36.8 miles, so somewhere b/w Trenton and Princeton.

So really we'd still be a lot of miles (or feet) off of being able to see them as tiny dots on the horizon.

If it makes you feel any better, the Philadelphia skyline can easily be seen from the PA turnpike crossing the Delaware River.

Can’t see Manhattan from there.
Would be nice to find one spot where both skylines are visible.

The Philly skyline can also be seen from the top of Wilmington skyscrapers, the DE Memorial Bridge, and the I-495 bridge in Wilmington.

They should build a public tower at Six Flags at 5,000 feet just to see both

There's no way that's accurate.

Right; if you had a 2,500' tower in Philly or New York, you'd be able to see the other skyline as a squiggle on the horizon.

If one is 1200' in the air, you should be able to see other 1200' buildings at least 50 miles away. I'd suggest on a clear day philly to NYC can be viewed.i believe the horizon views are based at whatever height, but focused on the horizon.

The math in this post from page 87 of this thread certainly confirms it, but is working from a perfect sphere, not taking into account.... elevation changes, foliage etc.

I just don't believe it.

A buddy of mine has pictures from the top of the Comcast center. Like outside on the roof. It was a clear, cold day in the winter, no haze, and you still couldn't even see Trenton. but you can still Wilmington and the Delaware Memorial.

Why? I don't know, but again probably elevation changes and land. Wilmington is visible because you're looking straight down the Delaware river, the lowest point in the area, free of obstructions.
