Knight Street Bridge Upgrades | u/c

Quote:
Upgrading work to begin on Knight Street Bridge

Major upgrades will begin in June on the Knight Street Bridge, part of TransLink's Major Road Network.

Through the summer, work will be done on and below the bridge deck. Kingston Construction will reinforce the bridge piers and foundations, while Seismic 2000 Construction will resurface the southbound lanes of the Marine Drive Overpass and replace the bridge deck joints.
This is the first major overhaul of the bridge, which was opened in 1974, and will ensure continued safety of the bridge and compliance with current standards for seismic resistance.

The construction work will require lane closures. Most of the work will be done overnight: 10 pm to 5 am, Monday to Friday, 10 pm to 8:30am Saturday and 10 pm to 8 am Sunday. However, the Marine Drive Overpass will be reduced to two southbound through lanes, from the present three, 24 hours per day until July 31. Motorists should expect delays and may wish to plan alternate routes. The contractors will be responsible for informing the media directly of changing traffic patterns as necessary.
Steel plates may be periodically required over the bridge joints. Motorists are advised to reduce their speed accordingly and to drive with due care.
This work is scheduled to start on Monday, June 2 at 10 pm and is expected to be complete by mid-October.

Notice to media: to ensure you're on the contact list for traffic updates, please contact Debbie Stushnoff, (604) 534-6614 or (604) 835-5830.

How about some expanded bike space? I cycle across that bridge almost every day, it sucks for cyclists.

Knight Street is probably the worst bridge to cycle across after the Pattullo bridge - the Patullo is scary - why cant they just install fencing on the sidewalk to separate from traffic?

Knight street is nicely separated, just too skinny. Passing pedestrians and other cyclists (which happens a lot in nice weather) means one party has to come to a complete stop.

Try keeping these types of topics to a minimum, just for major projects.
