‘Central Ave. Arts Corridor’ to get boost from new music center

The $40 million building housing a state-of-the-art concert hall, class spaces, rehearsal rooms and recording studios should start rising before Christmas at 3800 Central... The 90,000-square-foot Scheidt Family Music Center should be completed by spring 2021.

The Falls mixed-use commercial project moving forward in Arlington

Six-story apartment building, pedestrian bridge en route to Pinch District

"ALSAC is moving forward on a six-story, 140-unit apartment building that would be connected to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital campus via a pedestrian bridge.
The building would host St. Jude patients and their families and would be located on 2.2 acres just across Third Street from Tri Delta Place, which serves a similar role, according to ALSAC's recent application to the Memphis and Shelby County Board of Adjustment. A two-story, 99-space parking garage would also be included in the development."

Huge distribution facility linked to Amazon planned in Frayser

"It appears Amazon is expanding its Memphis presence.

Atlanta-based Seefried Industrial Properties filed a zoning application to construct a five-story distribution facility with 2,000 parking spaces in Frayser. On the application, the tenant is referred to as "Project Iris," and the development as "AR SORT FC."

"The Memphis facility be located just north of the Nike North America Logistics Campus, on New Allen Road."

Construction of $30 million wellness, recreation center at U of M nears

The University of Memphis will break ground on a $30 million Center for Wellness & Fitness next month adjacent to the new Hunter Harrison pedestrian cable bridge/ Alumni Mall Amphitheater and 1,140-space parking garage on Southern Avenue. The two-story, 74,000-square-foot facility is tentatively slated to open in spring 2021... The existing Student Recreation & Fitness Center will continue to operate along with the new facility, but it, too, will add several improvements, most notably the $10 million Mike Rose Natatorium, involving a complete renovation of the existing pool. The renovation will create a deeper, longer pool more conducive to lap swimming, and a new warm-water leisure pool.

Work underway for $15M Memphis Business Academy project

I visited Memphis for the first time last week. I think the city is underrated, has a lot of potential. Jealous that your streetcars have protected right of way. And it is awesome that they shut down Beale Street for pedestrians I think Broadway in Nashville could benefit from this. Overall, I feel like Memphis does a great job with pedestrian connectivity...it was easy to walk everywhere.

Why Memphis airport's improved credit rating might lead to more flights

Moody's Investors Service upgraded the MSCAA's general airport revenue bonds to A2 and has modified MSCAA's rating outlook from positive to stable. Last May, S&P Global Ratings raised the MSCAA's long-term and underlying rating from A- to A, and Kroll issued its first rating of MSCAA at A+.

Enplanements continue to rise at airport

Enplanements at MEM increased by 14,901, or 7.5 percent, in July year-over-year — from 198,889 to 213,790, according to the latest figures released by the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority. Additionally, the airport has seen year-over-year passenger growth in recent months, including 9.1 percent in March; 2 percent in April; 8 percent in May; and 4.1 percent in June.

Construction: $33M permit filed for Downtown office project

...for the renovation of the former Gibson Guitar building into the headquarters for FedEx Logistics. Grinder, Taber & Grinder Inc. was listed as the contractor. A $2.5 million building permit was also submitted for the renovation back in April... Somera and the Orgels also own a parking lot across from the Gibson where the Clipper — a planned nine-story office space above a 10-floor parking garage and 20,000 square feet of retail — is set to be built. That development is also expected to eventually house additional FedEx Logistics employees. Within the next five years, FedEx Logistics plans to locate more than 650 employees in the former Gibson space.

Some noticed that on some days in Sept, AA was flying two of the three DCA flights on mainline aircraft(A319). Hopefully the recently announced LAX service gets extended past the Holidays.

The low costs and market potential has to make MEM attractive to a potential start up like Moxy. Kinda like the gold Southwest found in dehubbed Nashvegas and St. Louis.

New East Memphis hotel proposed near International Paper, residences

A developer proposes to build a five-story, 98-room hotel in East Memphis, next to International Paper headquarters as well as a residential subdivision. Germantown-based Jason Crews Partnership filed an application to amend a 25-year-old planned development to allow a Residence Inn by Marriott on Massey Road, about 185 yards north of Poplar Avenue. A vacant office building now stands on the 1.43-acre site.

Historic Uptown site to become event center

Few Memphians likely are aware of the old Tri State Iron Works building in Uptown. But its stature should grow – by up to 300 to 400 people at a time – after Billy Orgel and his partners finish a $2.5 million renovation. The 28,000-square-foot building... First- and second-floor office spaces at the building’s northwest corner, fronting Keel and Front, will be leased separately to other commercial tenants... Activating that corner is important because it adjoins the site of the future Snuff District, a $195 million mixed-use development of 550 apartments, 75,000 square feet of office space, 15,000 square feet of retail, 50 single-family homes, a river walk and park area.
