One on the left is the Toyota Center. The one featured is a residential proposal and the massing model is their 'phase II' proposal. Not sure about the one in the back (possibly the Toyota Center Tundra Garage?)

Encore Castle Court: This project is replacing The Place Apartments.

http://encore.bz/multi-family/portfolio/ccg/

Quote:
Encore CC&G is located in the Houston, Texas Museum District, just southwest of the central business district. It is centrally located near shopping and restaurants, Greenway Plaza, the Galleria, and major employers. The Texas Medical Center is approximately 2 miles south of the property, and is one of the largest medical districts in the world. The existing community, The Place Apartments, will be demolished and redeveloped. Construction will commence October 1, 2014 and leasing will begin November 1, 2015.

The Encore Castle Court looks very IKEA-ish to me. Not bad though....

Tilman Fertitta (Landry's) insists that despite the drop in oil prices and the risk of a real estate bubble, he still plans to build his hotel on the West Loop.

Houston billionaire plans expansion even as slumping oil prices cloud economic future

I understand his concern, but saying Houston isn't as diversified isn't true. If the bubble pops, and oil prices drop to $50 those people will be looking at other jobs/ careers around the metropolitan area.

A high-end office building has broken ground north of Buffalo Bayou just west of downtown.

At 18 stories, the property will be smaller than the many of the city's soaring towers, but likely just as nice.

This project is unique in what it has to offer to this growing and thriving submarket area," developer Ernie Cockrell of Pinto Realty Partners said in a statement. "With all of the surrounding development and amenities, this office project will bring a new set of standards to how businesses view their office space and the environments in which they conduct business."

The building is going up on Willia Street, just north of Spotts Park and near the intersection of Memorial and Waugh.

"You've got the park on one side, incredible views of downtown and Washington Corridor out your back door," said Michael Anderson of Colvill Office Properties, which is leasing the building.

Anderson said the property will be marketed to companies in and around downtown that want accessibility to the city's main business district but don't need to be right in it.

Rents are expected to be in the low- to mid-$30s per square foot range.

The building will be close to Buffalo Bayou Park, which runs from downtown to Shepherd and is undergoing a $58 million restoration

Either that, or Houston can try poaching a few Dallas-Fort Worth businesses.
