You'd think the Mormon lesson would've been learned by my Catholic co-religionists (which only just figured out how to make better use of the Cathedral block). Some retail at Cascia would be a nice income stream and keep the corner lively.

Tax burden of living in the city is coming closer to approaching that of the suburbs. Good news for the city!:

Ronald McDonald House Expansion - 3900 block of Chestnut - 8 floors

Quote:
Along with the renovation of existing structures, this expansion will enable PRMH to go from serving approximately 800 families annually over the past three years to an estimated 1,900 families annually. It will increase available room nights from roughly 16,000 to more than 40,000 per year.

It's definitely better than this nonsense, but what they're proposing seems like it could have easily been housed in the row houses they demolished.

I wish they could have saved the Furness twins, but the cause is worth it.

Yes, I've read it. But the more equivalent tax burden and the narrowing differential between the two is fact.

Competing with the suburbs is a zero sum game. I take no joy in rising taxes in our suburban communities. It's not Philly vs the burbs. It's the Philly Metro area vs Dallas, Boston, Atlanta, LA, etc; it's PA vs Texas, Tennessee, Arizona, Colorado, etc. And right now, we're losing. It doesn't help that Phila/Bucks/Montco/Delco/Chester are ajoined to every other county in the State. We're the only state in the NE to not legalize medical marijuana, gay marriage, etc. By the time medical marijuana is legal here, the rest of the NE will have legalized it completely.

Wow, I really went off topic here...

I like how the Study turned out! I find that the dark grey brick and very Modernist volumes remind me something you'd find in the Netherlands, which to me at least is a good thing. The many new street trees are also nice to see.
