A couple other things. Seeing the base like this always makes me giddy for the expansion of MoMA. This is big deal. New York has the greatest modern art museum in the world, and one of the greatest museums period-- and 4/5s of the collection as perpetually in storage. My wife and I always laugh at the fact that whenever MoMA highlights an artist, they can create a mind-boggling show simply by visiting their own warehouse. No loans from other museums required. Not to mention that the art-viewing experience is always marred by huge crowds. And perhaps someday they can even expand into the building on sixth avenue.

Also, being situated where it is, it really highlights the brilliance of Black Rock, which too often is ignored. Maybe because it always in the shadows cast by 30Rock and XYZ.

Probably answered way back earlier in the post, but is the exposed structure painted concrete or is it clad in something? I can't quite tell.

Its in the form of a diagrid utilizing concrete for the reinforcement. The concrete is cladded.

Example (taken from post many many months ago:

You can see the exoskeleton, concrete, plus the clad (dark) on the lower versus the unclad (atop).

Thanks. Now the second question is, what is the cladding?

^ If I recall correctly, I first thought it was stained concrete too, but it's unpolished metal panels of some sort.

She's almost there and I can't wait to see what that tri-color apex looks like in reality.

This one went up so fast after waiting so long for it to begin. I can't wait to see it at night. It would be cool if they accentuated the structure with lighting. That might be a little too Hong Kong though.

^ That last birdseye photo is older. It is well past City Spire by now. (Trees with leaves are a giveaway).

Look at the previous pics from Top of the Rock. That’s more current.
