It looks very impressive.

I am sure this is mentioned somewhere in the thread, but how much will it cost to build?

All in, I'm expecting about $120M. There are hopes that there will be about $200M in private investment in the surrounding area stimulated by this. There is already definite evidence that this project is a definitive kick in the pants for the downtown core

LOL, I actually got my first "angry" email about the DTC cam being frozen last week. Due to bandwidth and issues with the less than 100% reliability of the wireless backhaul, sometimes the streaming server shows a "melted" view for minutes/hour.

A case of immediate entitlement to something that people didn't know existed a week ago, LOL.

September update for the new Events Centre:

CONSTRUCTION OF THE FACILITY

WHERE ARE WE?
– The concrete bleachers have been set in place to allow for the first 3 main bowl roof trusses to be installed.
– The structural steel has been installed around the facil- ity with the exception of the south end near the CN Rail tracks. This opening allows for the crane to work its way out of the building.
– 3 out of 10 main roof trusses have been installed.
– Masonry concrete blocks have begun to appear in the northwest corner along Main St. This corner of the building contains dressing rooms, storage space and service rooms.
– Concrete slabs are being poured on the concourse level (second level up).
– Metal decking and roof curbs are being completed on the north end of the building (near the entrance facing Main St.) to prepare for the roofing.
– The Downtown Centre construction project is currently on schedule.

WHAT IS PLANNED FOR THE NEXT 4 WEEKS?
- The primary focus in September will be the continuation of the precast concrete bleachers and the upper bowl roof trusses.
- The large crane will assist in installing bleachers early in the month and switch back to erecting trusses in mid-September.
- Metal decking and smaller steel items will continue to be installed while the precast bleachers are being erected.
- Exterior masonry walls will continue on the north side (facing Main St.) and will also begin on the east side (plaza side).
- Steel stud installation will continue around the concourse level (second level up).
- Roofing will begin on the north end of the building.
- The precast concrete wall panels will be installed along the west side (Vaughan Harvey Blvd.) of the building.

Looking good. I think I'm counting 6 trusses up now so far, out of 10 I think?

So are they trying to get the building sealed up before the snow? Because it certainly looks like they are on track to having it mostly closed in by November at this point.

Some new photos of the events centre courtesy of the T&T

I don't know about anyone else, but in some ways it seems surprising that the events centre will have 9,000 seats. It just seems kinda small on the inside. I know of course that things can be a little misleading during the construction phase and this is just an optical illusion, but still........

I guess part of it is the fact that the current coliseum has a double deck of seating along one side while this arena will have a complete bowl of seating. This makes it difficult to compare the two facilities.

Also, CTV News the other night said that the events centre will contain a brew pub - that should be quite popular. I wonder if it will be an outlet of the Pumphouse???

^^^^ I was actually thinking the same thing, it does look a lot smaller on photos, but I think the fact that one side of the building still isn't finished yet and the fact there are no actual seats installed makes the illusion. One nice thing is that you can tell the "ceiling" is much higher which should help them attract more shows.

That illusion definitely goes away once standing next to it on the Main st sidewalk.

This is something that I'm still not clear about. I remember seeing conflicting reports early on in this project that stated 7,500 permanent seating and 9,000 for concerts.
Is it 9,000 permanent seats, and a higher number for concerts?

Early on in the process, the city manager tried to "cheap out", and the original RFP stated a seating capacity of 7500 seats. Mayor LeBlanc and most of city council rightfully took umbrage to this and demanded that the RFP be modified to give bonus points to any proposed developers for maximizing the seating capacity of the arena.

The winning bid (Bird Construction) proposed a 9000 seating capacity. You can rest assured that the events centre will seat 9000 people (perhaps more with the box seating included).

There's a story on progress for the events centre in today's T&T.

Here are a few takeaway points:

- the events centre will seat more than 9,000 people.
- the building will be fully enclosed before winter hits
- there will be nine concession areas on the mezzanine, and yes, one will serve craft beer.
- there will be retractable seating on the south end of the arena. This is where the staging will be set up for concerts when they happen. This lies immediately adjacent to the loading docks at the back of the building.
- the minimum height from the floor of the arena to the lowest roof truss will be 60 feet. This will allow for the staging requirements of any touring act on the continent.
- there are 15 suites, two of which will be rentable party suite.
- there will be two outdoor patios on the east side of the building, overlooking the plaza in front of the building.

Thanks for the update, MonctonRad... the more I hear, the more I believe this will be a tremendous boon to both Moncton's economy and it's downtown vitality.
