The view of it from Central Park will be amazing, too.

But here is what's REALLY amazing: the incredible explosion of 1,000+ foot proposals for New York, a mature, fully developed city. It's just incredible that 1,000 and more feet is seemingly becoming the norm for new proposals in this great city! Who'da thunk it, 5 years ago?

The fact that it is happening in Manhattan makes it all the more incredible. Nobody really thought anything tall would get built anywhere, let alone New York. Also, with so many tall towers, its hard to say just one will be a target, like opponents often like to say.

Sorry, just couldn't go too long without seeing this again. I'll get over it.

2009 is a long ways off. A lot could change in that time. I am confident with this one though.

Well I agree with you. Those interior shots are what I think look amazing. Elegant really. The exterior is just stunning. I love the shape, the height is a plus, and location is perfect. Judging by the renders of both the inside and out I think it is amazing and while this may be a silly analogy but if to some a golden shimmering atrium with chandeliers and crazy bells and whistles all over the place is preferred, well thats just gaudy. If guady is amazing then hookers must be beautiful..

Instant class B landmark.

People may not remember its name or address, but they'll sure as hell visit this city, see this tower and remember this design. This is a project I'm really excited about. I nearly wet myself on the subway when I first saw the rendering in the NYT the other day.

It's very beautiful. It just goes to show that you can be small (in size) and still have a big impact on the city and skyline. This design could never have worked for an office tower (maybe 50 years ago).

LOL. I'm sure they'll market miniature models of the building at the museum when it gets built, but I want one now.

This will be the city's tallest midblock tower, right?

Yeah. The only 1,000 footer that's not at an intersection. (tower 3 doesn't really count)

what a surprise from nouvel! no gimmicks or bizarre program choices or jarring colors. wow. +10 for mr. nouvel. the severe slope is such a wonderful way of reinterpreting the long-forgotten setback rule that gave new york most of its great skyscrapers. the structural system is really intriguing too; a nice departure from foster/rogers. overall just a great, salient but inoffensive building. his best since tour sans fin.

NYguy has posted a few before. Ask him. The problem is 1,000+ footer proposals seem to be a daily trend for New York nowadays, so it's difficult to keep the list updated. Damn are we glad to have that problem.

We need diagrams for this tower in addition to the GiraSole, Extells' confirmed tower, the revised 5 WTC, Sherwood's tower, and a few other proposals in Downtown.

Anybody willing to take up that job?
