Well, hell, most of the people that patronize that place are midwesterners... and I want to keep everyone up to date since I know they don't venture over to the Windsor construction thread in the Ontario forum.

I hope the wink emoticon said something.

Anyway, when were the plans changed for that tower, because the website is still saying a 22-23 story tower. Do you have any news articles discussing the increase in height, or know where the new renderings came from?

^Yep I saw the wink LMich, haha. They had a public meeting earlier in the week where they revealed the new plans for the tower. Apparently it's going to be a 25-storey hotel that will sit on top of a 10 storey building housing the convention centre and theatre or something like that.

Also, the original Casino Windsor has been totally renovated inside over the past few months, I was there two weeks ago and it looks completely different. Everything looks Caesaresque now.

Some guys in Windsor attended the meeting and they're talking about it in the Windsor construction thread.

Blitz, do you have a link to the minutes of the meeting or the agenda?

I haven't found anything online about it. Apparently they gave out some pamphlets and materials at the meeting though (that's where the rendering came from). You should try asking one of the Windsor guys that attended the meeting, they might have something.

I wonder if the Caesars decision for height had anything to do with competition between Detroit's tallest casino hotel tower? Good, IMO.

That really puts River House into perspective, LMich. Thanks for the info!

Michi, I'm sure they were trying to outdo Detroit. They were smart to keep their cards close while the casinos on the other side of the river were trying to one-up the other in their designs. I'm really disappointed that MGM Mirage, the second largest gaming company in the world, decided to skimp of their Detroit hotel tower. They could have easily built it double the current height as a statement.

Then, again, Caeser's is a Harrah's brand, and Harrah's is the largest gaming company in the world, so they probably still could have outdone MGM Mirage. lol

Okay, this isn't really skyscraper +300ft related, but it's been bugging me since I walked by. Does anyone know what's up with the Best Western on Lindell/Euclid in St. Louis. Suddenly the parking lot is chained off and it's vacant, but not really, because there's still beer in the cooler in the restaurant and there's a sign giving directions to some other hotel on the door. Jive?

I keep expecting the doozers to come blow up the Doctor's Building for the Renaissance down the street from me. Anyone got a date and method for demolition on it? I'd hate to miss it if I'm just down the street.

Word on the street says they're putting a massive 3000 foot skyscraper there.

LMich, that had to be as recent as last week because that's about how far along the project is right now.

Seeing that aerial got me thinking, I really really hope that the Macomb Street side of the facility will have street level retail as well. Anyone know the specifics on that? There is no reason it should not. Also, I wonder if the garage is going to go to the end of the block (Chrysler Service Dr.).

Anyway, I hope Grand Rapids, for the sake of our state, continues to outdo Detroit whenever it feels it might have that opportunity. Grand Rapids, for a realatively small city has exceptionally high/healthy standards for itself, where the Detroit culture has reduced itself to build a gas station on top of the Penobscot Building if we have to. All I'm saying is there's no reason the Detroit attitude can't start putting quality behind most of its projects.

Credit to MplsMatt from Minnescraper for the following pic.

The new Carlyle condo tower (41 stories / 469 feet) has surprised us all with their final lighting scheme, which is incredibly bright! It really extends the skyline to the north, away from the traditional core. It strikes me as somewhat retro-1930's in style, recalling the Wells Fargo Tower in the background of the picture. Most of the tower is still dark, with owners just now moving into the units on the lower floors. The tower should be even more striking when it fills up with residents.

Wichita doesn't have anything proposed that's over 300 ft and not sure if it ever will again since it has only one building in its core that's over 300ft. However, there's a developer that has a big development planned in the uptown area of Wichita that does include a condo tower that I believe is just shy of 300 and is around 280 feet or 16 stories. The city council approved the project 3 weeks ago. No word on when ground will be broken for this development and tower.

Word is out that the new design for a major tower in Minneapolis will finally be unveiled in Mid-April (undoubtedly higher than 300 feet and sources are hinting at something much taller). It was expected over a month ago but the project went back to the architects for a re-design.

Apparently unrelated to this is the Capella Education Corporation's recent announcement that they were looking for 350,000 sq. ft. to consolidate their HQ. They are currently located in 225 South Sixth and another tower in downtown Minneapolis, and have said they would prefer to stay in either of the two downtowns. That might trigger another tower.
