Was looking for an old rendering of the condo project being discussed here (couldn't find it), but found this article which reminded me of another Queen Street Project. Anyone know where this one is at? I am never in that area of city, so not sure if anything started yet.

I hope this new building attracts professional tenants. Likewise I hope that the new build at Queen & 2nd fills up. Hopefully Queen Street can recover a bit. Its a great street with tons of potential. As usual, though everything is about parking parking parking. That's all that seems to matter in this town.

Speaking of parking and Queen St... I was very disappointed when the Shangri-La basically put up big blank walls (i.e. parking) on its ground floor. That's not what the street needs to become more vibrant. I wish stuff like that was not permitted. At least this new development does include some underground parking (I had speculated earlier in this thread that maybe it had only surface parking).
A friend of mine knows one of the doctors in this practice very well. The reasons they moved are as follows:
1. They outgrew the building and needed more space.
2. The doctors wanted to own their own building.
3. And parking, parking, parking. There was insufficient parking in the area for all the staff and patients.

I go to the RydeYXE And City Perks on Princess Ave in City Park. I’ve never had an issue with parking there and it’s its own little Broadway area there. I purposely choose to go to that area over Broadway’s RydeYXE all because the parking is abundant and I’m always running late, and I’ve gotten too many tickets on Broadway that leave me depressed after a spin. I will never understand how the first hour of parking anywhere isn’t free or immensely cheaper than the following hour. Such a drag on Broadway.

Huge renovations coming to Centre Mall

The mall's owner says it plans to spend $43 million to renovate the mall's exterior, interior, food court and the space formerly occupied by Target. Alex MacPherson, Saskatoon StarPhoenix Updated: January 23, 2019

Another Saskatoon shopping mall is getting a multi-million-dollar makeover.

Morguard Real Estate Investment Trust said Wednesday that it plans to spend $43 million renovating the Centre Mall, a project that is expected to include a major overhaul of the 46-year-old mall’s interior and exterior.

The work is also expected to address the space formerly occupied by Target Canada Co., which was shuttered in 2015, refresh the food court and include the “continuing development” of a new Cineplex Inc. theatre, according to the mall owner.

Rezoning vote set for Varsity View condo tower
Community association plans to oppose proposal for 12-storey building by North Prairie
Phil Tank, Saskatoon StarPhoenix
Updated: January 24, 2019

Quote:
Jon Naylor thinks hundreds of hours of work on the Varsity View local area plan could be trampled on Monday.

Naylor, president of the Varsity View Community Association, plans to appear before Saskatoon city council Monday night to oppose a rezoning request that would allow a 12-storey condominium tower to be built.

North Prairie Developments wants to build a $60-million, 171-unit condo building on a vacant lot on the southeast corner of College Drive and Clarence Avenue.

Naylor said Varsity View residents spent hundreds of hours helping develop the neighbourhood’s local area plan.

“We don’t have any problem with infill,” he said in an interview on Wednesday. “We have a local area plan that allows infill. What’s the point of a local area plan if a developer can do what he wants?”

Naylor said the local area plan calls for a gradual increase in building heights. A 12-storey building would stand out as inconsistent with the two- and three-storey buildings along College, he noted.

Varsity View is comprised of mainly single-family homes with some small apartment buildings and the 22-storey Luther Tower seniors housing facility.

Naylor said he is concerned that if the North Prairie rezoning is approved by council, it could create a “domino effect” for more such developments along College.

He could not estimate how many residents might show up to speak at Monday’s 6 p.m. public hearing meeting, but said he feels most are aware of it. Most residents were unaware of the municipal planning commission meeting in December, where the project received an endorsement, Naylor said.

“In my mind, the (planning commission) decision is invalid because they only heard one side of the story.”

Naylor said there needs to be a proven benefit for the city to override the local area plan, but he fails to see that with the North Prairie plan.

Coun. Cynthia Block said she’s canvassed homes in both the Varsity View and adjacent Nutana neighbourhoods about the proposed building. She said many residents had questions, but most did not voice concerns.

The most common concern she heard from Varsity View residents was about on-street parking, Block said. The North Prairie building is designed to include 232 underground parking stalls. Additional visitor parking was added to address neighbourhood concerns.

Block said she has not heard sufficient reasons to oppose the rezoning application. The city’s growth plan calls for greater density in core neighbourhoods, and specifically along College, where a bus rapid transit route is planned.

“I think the problem is that there’s that one tall building at the top of the bridge that’s not like the others,” Block said.

I cannot make it, but I made it clear to my City Councilor that Mr Naylor does NOT speak for all residents of Varsity View and that I support this project. I am relieved to read in article that Ms Block sees no reason to oppose it.

I saw yesterday there were a number of ice sculptures downtown and on Broadway promoting the Winter City Conference....hope some "hooligans" don't feel the need to vandalize these! Kind of a nice addition to our winterscape.

Broadway has also erected a black wrought iron gazebo on the round raised 'stage' in front of Victoria School....looks pretty cool.

On their facebook page, Meridian has noted that the 1 month countdown is on to construction beginning on their Escala project.

I don’t have a photo, but the Raddison’s outside signage is now related as a Delta Marriott. This now makes the Delta here and the Delta in Regina basically clones (less the fact that Regina’s Delta has a larger convention facility, the mall (?), and the casino...

I personally think the facade of these two buildings is very ugly and a rebrand would have been a great time to upgrade it. Does anyone have any ideas or examples of how you could redo the facade on these buildings? I think it would definitely be hard with the weird rock like texture...

^ Main 360 in Winnipeg recently did a reclad.

I always thought that ever since lot became open between La Renaissance and Broadway Bridge that they could put more underground parking and build a convention centre there.
Plus build another condo tower across the street in Zion parking lot with skywalk to the new
convention centre and existing event rooms/pool/sauna etc.

According to this agenda the city planning commission is considering the Urban Capital proposal on Broadway on Tuesday. I think that would put it at City Council for a vote in February?

update of the old police station. As an fyi - it is going for $27.50psf - Saskatoon square which looks to be +50% vacant once River Landing is complete is going for ~$25psf.

Smart play by Meridian buying the old bus depot. If the arena ends up across the street someday, they've got a large, strategically located site that they can redevelop.

I've been to just about every one on that top 20 list and I love it here best for both our amazingly clear summers, food, river, cleanliness, no lack of space, healthcare, and safety.
