I completely agree with you - on this one.

I am generally in favor of bike lanes. That is when they are actually used. A few years ago the city spent something like $300K putting bike lanes on St. Margaret's Bay Road. Problem is virtually nobody uses the lanes. So we spent 300K on a for a few citizens to have personal bike lanes rather than using the 300K for the greater good.

And to top it off Halifax' finest were ticketing vehicles with even a smidgen of tire in the lanes along Long Lake Provincial Park. Cars have been parking here since the park opened as the parking lot is so small. So the powers that be would rather discourage people from physical activity for the sake of a few bike riders. This is quite discouraging giving the province is in the midst of a health promotion campaign but they discourage physical activity by not expanding the parking lot there and prodding HRMPD to ticket cars on the shoulder of the road.

If they are going to ticket cars shouldn't all cars parked along the road be ticketed not just those with a tire on asphalt. After all SMBR is a highway and parking is not permitted along highways. Why be selective in punishing only a few in the crowd.

I agree that parking facilities at LLPP are inadequate, and that the value of the bike lanes on SMBR is debatable (especially since the Chain of Lakes trail runs parallel). However, now that they are there I support ticketing cars parked on them. Some people do use the bike lanes and are forced to repeatedly merge with heavy rush hour traffic on the road, which creates dangerous situations.

It is not debatable. Spending $300K of tax-payer funds for a few citizens is not prudent use of public funds. Spending that kind of money on lanes in areas of high bike ridership is however a good use of public funds.

Take for example Purcell's Cove Road. We have now been subjected to a five-week project to add lanes to the Road. However on most of the stretch there is only going to be one lane due to the lack of space. Does this make sense? From a financial perspective a complete waste of money. First why bother building one lane. It's like a one-way subway line. You can get somewhere but not back. Also most people in the area (even regular bike riders) won't climb the road. It's simple too long and steep for most riders. I drive this road at least four times each and every day. Rarely see a biker.

So the funds would have been better spent on more buses or, more importantly, repairing what we already have. Cause the infrastructure in this city is in scary shape.

The Bentley Website

This is a WM Apartments building.

Have a look at the photo gallery. There are some high quality construction shots and a couple of skyline views.

The crane for the Bentley has moved across the street beside the other orange crane, neither site looks active. They are working on the first and second level on the building building beside the Bentley, with more yellow crane sections stored on site.

It has one already. The four buildings underway are all L-shaped and three of the sites have cranes (only the Bentley doesn't).

Oh, okay, I got mixed up what one I was looking at, that must be the one with the white crane then? Down towards the bottom of the hill the last site appears to have footing excavation now underway.

The crane from 420 Larry Uteck is now up, I noticed this end of Regency Park is now called Washmill Lake, which makes sense with the new road alignment. This area is definitely the crane capital of Halifax now. Photos by me:

Lots of Cranes:

The Bentley:

16 Bentley - there has been no action on this site since the crane went up, there is still a lot of sitework to be done before formwork can start. Seems to just be a site to stock pile forms.

36 Bentley:

35 Bentley:

599 Washmill:

WM Fares has a rendering on their site for "Royal Summit" now. I could be wrong, but I think this was suppose to be the name of the building one up the hill that caught fire late in construction, which is now under a different name.

35 Bentley, definitely going up the quickest:

The Bentley:

16 Bentley, maybe there is some activity here now? The crane has been up the longest out of them all.
