Celebration of Light Announces Country Line Up
Past Champions Poised to Light Up the Sky
VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - April 11, 2011) - Vancouver's skies will shimmer once again for the 21st annual Celebration of Light igniting English Bay, July 30th, August 3rd and August 6th. This year's event will launch a new format, with the 3 previous winning countries returning to compete in a "Battle of the Champions".
China, the winner in 2008 will kick off the festival Saturday, July 30th with their show, 24 Seasons of the Solar Year. The show will take this year's seasonal calendar as its inspiration to provide a trip through the Year of the Rabbit. Next up on August 3rd will be Spain who won the competition last year, bringing their "Odyssey" fireworks spectacular to Vancouver in a bid to keep their title. Canada will round off the competition and treat pyrotechnic fans to a journey through "Then and Now". The winning country will be announced Monday, August 8th.
The 2011 Celebration of Light will be presented by Shore 104.3FM. Major Festival Sponsors include The Keg Steakhouse & Bar, and Concord Pacific Developments. Corporate partners include Tourism Vancouver, and Vancouver Airport Authority. Media partners for the event are The Vancouver Sun, Global TV and the SHORE 104.3 FM. The City of Vancouver also continues its significant support of this long standing civic event.
Working closely with the City of Vancouver, The Celebration of Light is expanding its green footprint by providing 3 bike valet locations and asking fans to embark on a zero waste initiative when they attend the fireworks. Numerous additional recycling and garbage bins will be provided throughout the festival site and will be staffed by volunteers with an aim to reduce waste on the beach and in neighbouring areas.

The Board of the Vancouver Fireworks Festival Society welcomes several new members this year -- Senator Larry Campbell, Mike McDaniel, President and CEO of the PNE and the Hon. John D. Reynolds, who will be taking over the position of Chairman of the Board for the Society from Brent MacGregor, who has held this position for the past 4 years.
