Burrard Bridge/ Fantasy Highway Concepts Thread?

It's something I've been thinking about around in

http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=226949

for some time now.

The idea is that the bridge would span from the East side of Burnaby Mountain to the old Power Plant lands in Belcarra- connecting Hwy 1 to Ioco and David Avenue, and providing higher-speed access to the Tricities.

A potential extension would see it turn around to connect to North Van via Deep cove, proving highway access to the East of North Van. It would then extend to Upper Levels by skirting Seymour Provincial Park, LSCR, and connecting just east of Lynn Canyon.

Would it work?

It might be efficient but it would scar and mutilate Deep Cove, one of the prettiest places in metro.

You should really take a look back at previous posts. This kind of thing has been discussed to death.

A) Anything that cuts into forests/parks is probably a no go.

B) Wouldn't do much for traffic flow and the traffic it reroutes would be to areas that have no real benefit in allowing a new highway cut through their city

Transit tunnel, third tunnel crossing or upgraded Second Narrows are probably the most needed/likely crossings for the North Shore.

I don't think a route like that would not be possible.. Just look at how long it takes to extend David to Ioco. Right now they are proposing to zigzag the road around a park in the middle of nowhere that few people care about, let alone a route that will first destroy a park along a creek (possibly need to fill up the creek), go through a conserved forest area, tunnel in sands, bridge over deep inlet, tunnel under a swamp in another conserved area, cut right through a park and destroy the entire picnic area, destroy a neighborhood that is will displace a quarter of the village population, bridge over another deep inlet, destroy some neighborhood and the village centre of deep cove, then go across another conservative forest and destroy all hiking and biking trails there, bridge over two river canyons and cut a hill right open inside LSCR, and the destroy another neighborhood before joining up with highway 1. Put all the environment issues aside, just think about the cost......

Not really. It's talking about a bridge in Vancouer Harbor, not in East Burrard.

OK, so maybe the link through Deep Cove wouldn't work- what about just the Bridge to the Tricities from Hwy 1?

If HWY 7 is upgraded to expressway on East of Pitt Meadows (along with a expressway bypass on Golden Ears), you should have a quicker way to get to Hwy 1.

Thread closed. Seems someone is not comprehending how to use existing threads instead of creating new ones for every ridiculous idea they have.
