Excellent news for Glover Park. The Trader Joe's that is part of the Hine School development at Eastern Market will open this Friday.

Trader Joe’s Confirmed For New Glover Park Development

Sept. 26, 2017
Urban Turf

"The rumors have been swirling for years, but news comes today that seems to confirm that Trader Joe’s is coming to Glover Park.

Eat DC tweeted earlier today that Trader Joe’s has filled a liquor license application for 2101 Wisconsin Avenue NW, the former Holiday Inn site that is being transformed into a 225-unit development from JBG. The Holiday Inn closed in late 2015, and JBG acquired the leasehold interest in the property from 2101 Wisconsin Associates LLP in June of last year..."

Anacostia

BOOM! Anacostia would be a good place to invest in property. There is a tremendous amount of development south of the Mall and this is right next to Joint Base Bolling and one metro stop away from the businesses at the Capitol Riverfront/Navy Yard.

The Wharf

My wife, a couple of friends, and I went to the grand opening of the Wharf yesterday in Southwest DC. There will be events all weekend to celebrate the opening. The light was a bit poor and the weather was misty last night, so the photos aren't as good as they could be. Regardless, PN Hoffman did an amazing job with the Wharf. There are some great public spaces, including a pier, several new restaurants, new retail, and two impressive concert venues.

Here are some more photos that I took of the new Wharf development from this Saturday, when the sun was out.

By Nena Perry-Brown

"The owners of the former Dancing Crab, a restaurant that was once a staple in Tenleytown, are interested in replacing the property with a mixed-use development.

Last night, owners Carlos Horcasitas and his wife May-May Au Huie shared with ANC 3E early concepts to replace the former Dancing Crab at 4615 Wisconsin Avenue NW with a six or seven-story building containing 41 studio and one-bedroom apartments above a sit-down restaurant and below a rooftop lounge. Twelve percent of the units would be set aside for inclusionary zoning...."

Barrack's Row

Last night I was walking to the bus and I saw this building permit posted on the door of 716 L Street, SE. The building is currently a vacant 3-story building, across the street from the blue castle and next to the Brig. I've thought this would be a great location for another restaurant on the ground floor because of the wide sidewalk on this section of L Street.

Rents are finally falling in D.C. as new apartment projects boost housing options

Who'd have thought? If you increase the supply of housing, prices will moderate.

Rents are finally falling in D.C. as new apartment projects boost housing options

By Aaron Gregg
October 29. 2017
Washington Post

"Average rents at the District’s higher-end apartment buildings have turned lower over the past year, research firm Delta Associates found, as a surge of new projects in the Southwest Waterfront area brings fresh competition to recently gentrified neighborhoods in the middle of the city....

District residents filled 11,126 new apartments during the past 12 months, Delta Associates found, making the Washington area the fourth-busiest one for adding rentals behind Dallas, Houston and Atlanta. There are relatively few apartment vacancies here compared with elsewhere...."

A rendering of a potential design for the new Georgetown Canal. (Image courtesy of Urban Turf).

"There are some bold new designs for the Georgetown Canal.

Earlier this year, Georgetown Heritage (GH), the National Park Service (NPS) and the architecture and design firm James Corner Field Operations began presenting concepts and considerations for the planned revitalization of the C&O Canal in Georgetown to the community. On Thursday night, the community got its first look at potential design concepts for the mile-long site..."

Audi Field

Here are some photos I took of Audi Field (the new DC United stadium) that is under construction in Buzzard Point. I am impressed with how rapidly construction is progressing.

I went to DC this weekend to see my dads new apartment near the Nationals baseball stadium. The amount of development is insane. Looks like pretty high quality builds too. That is all. I was impressed.

Not to be a creeper but do you know which building the apartment is at? We live in the neighborhood. If you come back in six months, you won't recognize the neighborhood, with all of the new development.
