Amsterdam - no canals

I visit Amsterdam every couple of months of so. Here's a collection of my photography of this Dutchest of all Dutch cities. 'The worlds smallest metropolis' as Mick Jagger once labeled it. Mick is a rock 'n' roll god, so he can't be wrong. This will be one of those ongoing threads, but a very slow one. No canals or historical shenanigans, just your average Amsterdamming damnification.

Your luv is nevertheless appreciated, especially when it rains down in comments and stuff like that.

Tryin' to please your ears as well as your eyes, with De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig.

That's all folks, thanks for watching.

Like and luv? More such stuff: ---> 050 - Capital of the North - Gritty Dutch Delight

Interesting, great shots! When I visited Amsterdam for the first time, one of the first things that came up in my mind is that the city is about so much more then just the canals, coffeshops and red light districts that the city is famous for. Amsterdam has much more varied architecture then I would expect.

A lot of the shots look kind of like an American city.

The innercity is so beautiful, the rest gets overlooked easily. I like the more gritty side of Amsterdam too. There's something for everyone. And then there's weed.

Perhaps, although it's more of a a global big city thing. An urban vibe. Of distinctly North American origin. Everybody tries to look like New York I guess, or has tried for the last century or so.

I definitely see the global big city thing. The 3 big Dutch cities (Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague) have a sort of global feel to them that feels very North Atlantic. The brick. The highrises that dot the cities in little clumps. The complex railway stations that pop up out of nowhere. The immigrant presence.

And they're surrounded by edge city corporate suburbia and midrise apartment blocks that feel vaguely Asian.

That said, the Dutch did all those things first, so maybe the world looks Dutch rather than the other way around.
