The replacement for the All World Super Playpark at Frank L Bowser School is apparently very likely a go, hopefully with an opening this fall.

Preliminary design:

Total cost about $500k.

Apparently a residential care facility is planned for 709 Coverdale Road (next to the meat market mentioned above, and immediately to the west of the Riverview Lions Club).

There is a Pur & Simple banner in the window of one of the vacant CRUs at Pinewood Plaza (the plaza containing Papa John's and Pita Pit). The banner says that they are looking for a local franchisee. This is a similar strategy as they used for their wildly successful location at Plaza 1909 on Mountain Road.

It would appear that corporate has targeted Pinewood Plaza as another greater Moncton location. The issue will be whether or not a franchisee is willing to take on the challenge.

Unfortunately there seems to be a shortage of budding entrepreneurs (with available cash) in Moncton. There are several chains chomping at the bit to move in, but there are no takers.........

Look at A&W that was looking to add a location at the corner of Morton, and McLaughlin. They had a sign up for a long while, and seemingly just gave up as nobody seems to either be intrested, or have the funds to run a franchise.

a&w has sought and received approval from town planning to set up shop in the parking lot in front of the Igloo/Dollar Store further down Morton Avenue _ near the Shoppers.
I don't know if they found a frnchisee or not. Indeed they couldn't find one for Morton at McLaughlin so maybe they will operate corporately, or maybe they are just planning for a potential store a few years down the road.

News Release
Transportation and Infrastructure
Petitcodiac bridge and channel construction to begin
26 May 2018
MONCTON (GNB) – Planning, design and construction of a new 240-metre permanent bridge over the Petitcodiac River is getting underway in 2018. The new bridge will provide a safer crossing for commuters between Moncton and Riverview and allow for enhanced eco-tourism growth opportunities in the region.

“Strategic investment in transportation infrastructure is an important part of your government’s multi-year economic growth plan,” said Premier Brian Gallant. “The bridge and channel construction will complete the final stage of restoring the Petitcodiac River to its natural state. In the short term, jobs will be created during construction and in the long term, eco-tourism will provide opportunities for sustained economic growth.”

The next phase of the project involves the replacement of the aging river gate structure with a 240-metre steel girder bridge and realigning the river channel at an estimated cost of $14 million. The provincial government is contributing $34.6 million to the project and the federal government will provide the remaining $27 million.

“The Government of Canada is proud to mark the next phase of construction on this important project, which will support long-term prosperity for the region, as well as protect the local fish population,” said federal Fisheries, Oceans and Canadian Coast Guard Minister Dominic LeBlanc. “Today’s milestone is a significant step towards addressing environmental issues that have affected the Petitcodiac River and surrounding area for more than 50 years.”

LeBlanc spoke on behalf of federal Infrastructure and Communities Minister Amarjeet Sohi.

The provincial government is also partnering with the Town of Riverview on a $1.9-million project to add lanes and upgrade the intersection at Route 114-Gunningsville Bridge/Gunningsville Boulevard. These upgrades will help alleviate traffic congestion during the Petitcodiac bridge and channel construction.

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure’s $688.2 million capital budget reflects the government’s priority to invest strategically in its buildings, highways and bridges. Strategic investments in infrastructure are a key component of the multi-year New Brunswick Economic Growth Plan, government’s framework for moving the economy forward.

I imagine for each new phase and/or new Government contributions (*cough*elections*cough*). Including the official opening in 2020, I assume at least 3 or 4 more.

Did you notice the announcement is posted/dated May 26? A Saturday. I was trying to figure out why they would do it this way when almost all others come out on weekdays.

Not sure. Unpopular press releases usually come out Friday afternoons . I don't think this fits the bill though.......

Here's a photo of the festive event.

Just about every prominent Liberal politician in southeastern NB (and Ann Seamans) is included in the photo (#politicalopportunismNB)

I wondered the same thing about the timing. My guess is they are so busy making these announcements that there's no more time left on weekdays, they now have to announce some of them on Saturdays as all weekdays are now jampacked full of announcements and reannouncements and rereannouncements.
Or perhaps they relegate to Saturdays those announcements they've already made three times? Heaven knows.

Further to $1.9-million upgrade to Gunningsville Bridge intersection....

Road work on the Gunningsville intersection will start July 3 and continue until the end of August. Work will be primarily done at night to minimize disruption during peak travel times.

Town of Riverview added an event.
...

Residents are invited to attend a public information session to learn more about the upcoming infrastructure improvements to the Gunningsville Boulevard intersection at Coverdale Road and Hillsborough Road.

Residents can drop into Riverview Town Hall between 6 and 8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12 to obtain information, review the traffic plan and ask questions.

I have heard a reliable rumour that there is a replacement contact centre opening in the Riverview Mall where Sykes used to be.

Apparently Tech Mahindra is moving in, initially with a workforce of 100, but with plans for future expansion.

Apparently the contract for the new contact centre will be for HBC/Saks.

It would be great if they put up a big Saks 5th Avenue sign on the Riverview Mall - just to confuse people.......

Sounds like there's some facts to back up your rumour. Tech-Mahindra is posting jobs in our area.

A call center is a good way to fill the empty space of those old theaters in the back.

Its just nice to see the mall being filled again. It was starting to have a Ghost Town feel to it.
