I don't like neither of the proposals.
I'd venture to say that this new preliminary proposal is arguably better than the boxy, out of scale mess proposed by de Herzog and de Meuron...
Guess we'll have to wait for the definitive render.

fresh pix from today, by Assemblage23 from SSC...

the tallest building near the hotel... another hotel Holiday Inn Select, around 15 floors, 40mts aprox.

panoramic of the roundabout where this building is located..
to the right is the place of the new building...
to the far left is a lot where exist a rumor for another tall tower...

and a pic of the avenue where the suspended bridge is going to be built, you can see the columns in the middle... the suspended part is about 30 or 40 mts on the clearence, im not sure, but the bridge is 1km long...

Meh. Conventional, but has some retro Latin American appeal to it as a classic 70's office tower stereotype, complete with the company logo and a helipad.

I like the design and has a good height for Latin America. And Is this building close to the "Torrena"?

It has good height, is going to be the tallest in town, until a 62 floor office tower gets built by 2012...
it is not far from torrena, like about 2km, but torrena is so dead now.
yeah, it's a shame they dumped the H&deM project, wich i underline, i was supposed to be designed by them, someone presented that render, wich i personally didn't like that much, too bulky, but coming from them, should end up in something nice.
I do think as well, that the new one is a bit retro and dont like it that much, but is not far from any normal tower in NY or somewhere else.
We are still waiting for an official render, and see what happens.

If that's the final design, then yeah, it's not particularly ground-breaking from a design perspective, but so what, not every building has to be...The style of design gets even more insignificant when you consider the fact that this building will more than double the hight of Guadalajara's current tallest! Now that's exciting news!

A mi me gusta este torre!

People have to take in consideration that unless this design may be nothing new in any US city, Europe, China or Dubai there is nothing similar in Guadalajara

it`s not going to be the double of any tower already built in the city... the tallest tower now in the city (zapopan county) is 171mts tall and 44 floors. But certainly is going to be the tallest for a while... while the future tallest in town, 62 office floor, Puerta Guadalajara tower gets built, and that means, not far away.

Thanks. It must be fairly new, but then it's been a good 10-12 years since the last time i was in Guadalajara. I was particularly fond of the residential neighborhoods that had poinsettia street trees lining them. It's exciting to see so much new construction going on, if not a little frustrating to find out about missing buildings in the "diagrams" section, here.

on edit:

I think I figured out part of my confusion. Isn't Puerta de Hierro considered to be simply a district of Guadalajara? I realize that area is booming, yet on the SSP "Cities" section, none of those buildings are listed under Guadalajara. They are listed under Zapopan! Are there other localities listed in the Jalisco section, which are really part of Guadalajara? Thanks in advance for any clarification.

Yes, i think if you just use Guadalajara, some buildings won´t show up... As you said, Zapopan is a district, and is part of the metro area, as well as Tonala, Tlaquepaque, Tlajomulco, El Salto, but this other districts don´t have tall buildings... It could be that you write Jalisco in the State area, but it will show Puerto Vallarta´s towers as well. So, it could be better just write Zapopan and Guadalajara, in the city.

Update by enrique-gdl ssc..

and a montage with the tower and a new bridge being built in the same corner, made by geraortiz...
