The rendering they released to the WSJ last year has CIM marked upon it.

Time is money, no time for a real rendering showing all the details. This project and One 57 sure have shared a lot in common.

Yeah, until a strong wind comes by and plucks it out of the ground.

I guess 1WTC gets no facetime, huh? Reminds me of when the Twin Towers took the place as world's tallest for five minutes until the Sears Tower was completed.

That means the same thing in some circles. The building itself is not in the ground yet, and probably won't be for some time, which is why this thread is still here.

I like 1WTC, and while it is a very tall building, this will stick it to Silverstein and the PA, embarrasing them for not building it taller.

How about an unofficial rendering?

Edit: I may have made it a little too tall, but oh well.

Don't really see if it did matter to them, but at least we're getting more supertalls in Manhattan.

Cool rendering! Still doesn't make me like the building any better though

I always thought Midtown would look cool with a supertall this thin, so I do like this building, and I'm glad it's going to get done. But I don't think it warrants being the tallest. What Midtown really needs, from an aesthetic perspective--after this is built, after the Hudson Yards and the Manhattan West towers, and the Tower Verre and 15 Penn, etc.--is a distinct modern supertall, at least 1,800 feet, right around Times Square. Something that warrants iconic status, emerging out of the heart of Midtown.

But this is going to be one cool tower once completed.

When you think how domineering the CitiGroup Tower is, especially when driving in from JFK or La Guardia, this tower is going to look so amazing. Jaw-droppingly so I would say.

Why? One World Trade Center is already near 1,800 feet in height, and the Empire State Building is the iconic building of Midtown. Midtown doesn't really need much.

Yes, 1WTC is nearly 1,800 feet, but with the spire. I'm talking about a building that will tower above all of them. Something the size and shape (though not necessarily design) of the Shanghai Tower, under-construction. Yes, the ESB is the iconic building of Midtown. But there are at least five buildings, probably more, that will match and surpass its height throughout Midtown within the next five years or so. Don't me wrong, that's a good thing. I support all of these projects.

But in 2020, when they're all built, there will likely be a "plateau effect" around the 1,200-1,300 foot range. It'd be nice at that time to see something else, distinctly higher, skyrocket out of the center of Midtown. That's all I was saying.

I agree with you. New York needs something now that makes that next leap (The way the original Twin Towers and Sears Tower did in the 70's). I would not hold my breath for a true 1800 footer or above though. In China they build to ego, in America we build to need, and there just is not that kind of demand. Especially with all the office space already available in this country.
