More pics of the Marriott

Was downtown this morning, and shot a few more pics. I was quite impressed by what I saw in the hotel. Much more larger than I had imagined, and very high quality materials.

A nice Starbucks up on the second floor that looks out over Congress.

I am VERY impressed with the street interaction of this project. This almost sets a new bar for Austin with how integrated it is with the pedestrian experience.

Yes, the corner bar is very nice. And the Burger Bar kind of reminds me of a cruise ship where you can just walk up to the grill on the pool deck and they'll cook up a burger real quick. Except it's not free here.

I completely agree and I love how they actually followed through with all the greenry they showed in their renders. I have become Jaded whenever I see greenry in renders and imagine the space without because it is usually used to "spruce" up a portion of the building to cover bad design.

I love everything about it on a strictly visual level, but am disappointed that they went with Starbucks. Corporate empires are stealing local culture so that there is a diminished sense of place for travelers. Everywhere they go, they see the same thing. I realize that some people prefer living a predictable, comfortable, consistent life where little ever changes, and these people are called conservatives.

Couldn't agree more. Especially the part about no puns.

Eh, Starbucks is made for that high volume stuff like conventions. Plus, Houndstooth is just two blocks up inside Frost.

A little dated, but I love this view.
Still wish that black aluminum cladding was something else.

Did the crown of this one get repainted? It looks different now.
