Hopefully we see more and more of this kind of thing in other old industrial buildings.

I take it the renderings we see in the video are the long term vision for this property? Have they talked about timelines for that?

Has 270 Sherman changed hands recently? I haven't kept up with the news of late; it seems to be on a slightly different tack from the early days. And you can also see how the Cannon Knitting Mills might be a little redundant with what's going on at 270 Sherman. Interesting...

I love 270 Sherman. It could become one of the best examples of post-industrial adaptive re-use in the country if they can raise the funding to restore it completely, and get a full slate of tenants.

There's a market for these spaces but it's probably still in its infancy in Hamilton. Until that grows, I think you're right.

The types of businesses that utilize these buildings could become a more important part of our economy. Hopefully the city is working to nourish them, as much as it does to woo the bigger employers... I know there are various strategies and programs but I'm not familiar with their details.

The City appears to coming around - perhaps - but I'd say they're still focusing too much on the Canada Breads of this world.

Not sure. This was the last I had heard on that front:

Historic Imperial Cotton Mill, used as arts incubator, for sale (Hamilton Spectator, Paul Morse, Mar 2 2010)

"Historical investment Opportunity" (Colliers International Sale Sheet)

Doesn't seem to be in Colliers' property database any longer, however.

270 Sherman’s development and management partner company is Crerar Group, whose endurance racing team is sponsored by the centre.

The Crerar Racing team will be competing in the trans-Mexican rally La Carrera Panamericana Oct 25-31.

The binder behind Peter Crosthwaite in the video appears to read "60 George Street / Crerar Investment Corporation / Ottawa 2013", which led me to discover that Mr. Crosthwaite was one of a handful of individuals sharing a 2008 Ottawa Architectural Conservation Award for Certificate of Merit (Restoration) in recognition of the firm's role in the façade refresh of 97-101 Rideau St., Ottawa.

strange how this building is so little in the news.

WILSON: New king at cotton castle on Sherman North
http://www.thespec.com/living-story/...sherman-north/

They say it took 1 ½ million bricks to build the factory that Imperial Cotton erected more than a century ago. That means the new owners of the mammoth mill on Sherman North paid about three dollars a brick.

Rob Zeidler believes they got a good deal. It closed a few months ago for $4,750,000.
