Metro-Van Skyscrapers (150m+)

So, recently with so many different communities in Metro-Vancouver building and proposing so many skyscrapers it has become difficult to keep track of them all.

Here is a list I have created of all the current completed, U/C, and proposed skyscrapers within Metro-Vancouver.

Please note that 150 meters is the cutoff generally used to define a true skyscraper, and I personally do not count tiny antennas.

Please help me complete this list and keep it up to date.

I will try to improve this original post later with a better table and maybe pictures.

Vancouver
Burnaby
Surrey
New Westminster

Is Station Square 3 (48 floors) over 150 meters?

The Coquitlam diagram has been greatly improved, thank you!.

Most importantly, why did the "cool" emoticon not work in the title!!!

Please contribute if you have any answers to these questions or more info in general.

Fun Stats:

All official top 75 towers in Metro-Van are after 2000. So we have indeed grown quite a bit in recent years.

Sorry for the random sizes, some of these projects only have huge images posted on this forum. I will update them with better renders when they come along.

A few weeks ago. There are some nice renders a couple pages back on the suburban update thread. The second tower is just shy of this list at 149 meters.

Your welcome! Hopefully we can gather some more official heights out of Burnaby and make it more complete.

I can believe Surrey only has one tower on the list. It would be nice to see some taller tower in Surrey.

Isn't that sad. It should really be office space pooled into massive buildings instead of many little office buildings. Burnaby's new Metrotown plan calls for more office space, hopefully they do it right.

https://burnaby.civicweb.net/filepro...own%20Plan.pdf

**A third of the 7th tallest building is office.**

Yeah, only one office tower on the list. The current design was rejected too, so hoping to see the updated design soon. A few of the others on this list are partially office.

Surrey may have 2 on the list if the height of the GEC building can be found and provided. (That is if it is a serious proposal or not.)

As recently as the start of Obama's presidency, Shaw Tower and Wall Center were still the 2 tallest buildings in the city

It's too bad that of all the new ones on this list only #16 is of any architectural significance.

What is "Burquitlam Tower"?

Are you perhaps referring to Crown, the 26 storey building by Beedie? http://crownbybeedie.ca/

AFAIK MThree is still the tallest in Coquitlam.

We sometimes forget what a boom we actually have had (Toronto is just such a huge and unusual shadow of recent).

The Burquitlam Tower was also posted on the suburban updates just last week, take a look

Thanks for making the list, looks good! You should consider adding a pic/render for each of the projects. I'll fill in some of the missing info:
  • Brentwood THREE is 182.0 metres, which would put it at #5.
  • The address for the New Westminster tower is actually 660 Quayside Drive. Obviously the project will receive an official name sooner or later so this isn't exactly a big deal.
  • The most recent official proposal for the tallest Holland Pointe tower is 138m, so it wouldn't make the list.

I keep a personal "database" of official heights for all towers over 100m in Metro Vancouver, so I've been getting super frustrated with Burnaby's refusal to give any specific information on their developments. We shouldn't have to go through FOI to get such basic information. I'm going to do some digging in the next couple weeks to try to get at least some answers.

Also, I know even Sir Norman Foster looks up to dleung's architectural intellect, but I would say more than just #16 are of any significance. I don't see any cities turning down #2, 6, 8, or possibly 11.

Brentwood Three is on the list and the New Westminster proposal name / address is corrected, thank you for the info!

Thanks Vin, hopefully more information will come forward regarding the Burnaby projects (and if anyone has any information / towers to add, please tell me on here).

Okay! Updated with renders and images.

If I can get to Canada again next year I will take pics of all these completed and U/C myself. (I used a mix of my own and Klazu's pics for now, sorry Klazu!) Many of my pics are outdated.

Also, if anyone can supply a good render that shows all 3 currently active Brentwood Towers that would be great. (or good individual renders or each tower).

My favourite of the bunch has to be 6000 McKay. It's just an elegant, straightforward design, even for a residential building.

Thank you! Done

As for myself, Trump Tower, Baptist Church, Vancouver House, and Station Square 5 are top quality (or have potential to be).

Most are decent though.

Only 1133 Melville is substandard. The regions tallest office tower should have a far better design.
