At 102 years old the Trillium is the oldest Steam Boat on the Great Lakes and one of only a handful of side by side paddle ferries.

My part of Ontario has a few ferries, mostly operated by the Government of Ontario, servicing islands in the Thousand Islands region. Some are free and some are toll.

This ferry connects Wolfe Island with Cape Vincent, New York, and it only operates during the summer months. I have yet to use it.

Alright, so the new Matane-Baie-Comeau-Godbout ferry has arrived in Matane this morning. Of course I had to go check it, there she is 1 hour after arrival.

Was the Camille-Marcoux the only ferry doing this route? Seems to me it was the exact same ship when I was a kid (I had a bunch of uncles and aunts on the north shore back then) than when I went more recently on a roadtrip with my gf...

The NM Camille-Marcoux entered service in 1975 and was the third ferry doing the route. The second ferry was the NM Sieur D'amours and entered service in 1966. It shared the route with the NM Camille-Marcoux from 1975 to 1981 when it was sold.

Interestingly enough, the NM Sieur D'amours was then renamed the MV Northern Princess and went on the Blanc Sablon, Qc/Ste-Barbe, NFLD route before being tied up in St. John's, NFLD harbour for several years! It's now gone but it appears on many St. John's shots.

The two largest ferries in the BC Ferries fleet are the Spirit Class 'Super Ferries'.

Spirit Class ferries can carry 2100 passengers and 470 cars, versus Coastal class' 1650 passengers and 370 cars.

The have been renovated so the interiors are better than they used to be.

Reading about ferry services in Canada I found this:
"Nova Star Cruises Limited, referred to simply as Nova Star Cruises, is a ferry company operating in Nova Scotia and Maine. Their ship, MV Nova Star, is a Ropax cruiseferry operating seasonally on the Gulf of Maine between Portland, Maine and Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. It began service on May 15, 2014."
From: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nova_Star_Cruises

MV Nova Star:

"The vessel has 163 cabins, consisting of variations of suites, ocean view cabins, interior cabins, and wheelchair-accessible cabins. There are also 254 individually assigned (reserved) recliner seats to use as a place for rest or sleeping. The vessel has capacity for 1,215 passengers and also contains 11 kennels for dogs and 12 kennels for cats. Pets are only allowed to be carried onboard in these kennels and cannot remain onboard vehicles. Service animals are allowed on all passenger decks and in passenger cabins.
The vessel can carry 336 car-equivalents and/or 38 commercial vehicles (semi-trailer rigs or buses) and commensurately fewer cars."

What's the name of the Ferry from Powell River to Comox? That thing is so old and dingy compared to most of the other BC Ferries. I think it may have been the Queen of Burnaby.

You are correct. Gratefully it's getting replaced soon so it can go to the big rust recycling centre in the sky.

The Toronto Island Ferry is a colossal ripoff. Line up for 45 minutes to buy ticket (~$30 for family of 4...outfuckingrageous). Then line up for another 30 minutes or more to board the ferry. You could easily swim to the islands more quickly.

Lineups are for suckers. If it's a busy day use an Island Ferry to get across. $10 pr person, no lines and they leave every few minutes at peak hours. Worst weekend to take the ferries to the Island would have to be Carribanna Weekend, at least it used to be. Also i would recommend taking the Wards Island or Hanlan's Point Ferries back. never any linups and both are a nice stroll from Centre Island.

One of seven ferries in Alberta. I grew up near this one, took it often in the summer and the ice bridge in the winter was fun too. It's not 'way up north' perspective I guess.
