Maybe it's just me but I find pointing out that its a "pedestrian bridge" seems a bit misleading. Taken from one of the city's websites;

"A second important role that the bridge will play is that of an emergency egress for ambulances, fire and police vehicles. During times of higher traffic such as concerts and tournaments, a secondary access for emergency vehicles to MacDonald Island is an essential component to running these large-scale events."

http://www.citycentremcmurray.com/waterfront-program

Not sure if making the bridge suitable to the weight and size of emergency vehicles would make it cost 77 Million $ but it's something no one is bringing up.

This is great news (the 27 story building) - so many of those lowrise 3-4 story buildings downtown should be bulldozed to make way for more development like this.

On an unrelated note, I wonder if there will be a new movie theatre built anytime in the near future? It's suprising to see such an outdated cinema for a city near the 100,000 mark.

There is talk of a new cinema being built as part of the huge rec center up near Dickensfield.

Plus Fort McMurray might "officially" be nearing the 100,000 person mark but in reality there are WAY over 100,000 people in Fort McMurray already when one includes the shadow population. The number of people who live in Fort McMurray and are not counted on the census due to living in basement suites, renting out bedrooms under the table, ect... is WAY bigger then most people not from Fort McMurray realize.

The real population of Fort McMurray is probably closer to 130,000 people if there was ever a chance to truly get a proper count on the people who actually live here.

I'm sure they will be bulldozed sooner or later.

Landmark Cinemas is proposing a large-format theatre at the northwest corner of Eagle Ridge Boulevard and Loutit Road.

I'm pretty sure YMM has been open for many years now.
I'm assuming you are meaning the new terminal.

Just got wind of a two tower complex proposal for downtown on Franklin Ave. Can't divulge more at this time, but the taller of the two will be a new tallest by a longshot.

There has been some rumours about one associated with the arena project. There is also some land horaded off for another if I am not mistaken.

But Fort Mac does need at least one more tower.

Which land are you referring to? The old Oil Sands Hotel site is the new arena's location, so that is out of the question. I am not really sure of anywhere else downtown that has any hoarding up, except for the dead condo highrise project on Manning Ave.

If he/she works for the municipality, then we may know the same person.
