The hill sure looks different now as you come south on Stoney.
That right if way already cut out was for a pipeline. Not Stoney.

Edit: I stand corrected as they have now cleared for Stoney. Drive by today.

Clearing from the south side of the Bow all the way up the hill is one contract separate from any roadwork contract. That tender was a month or so back. I doubt they're finished yet. Having the clearing done in advance allows for surveying and additional geotech investigations prior to any contract for roadwork. Parks Canada has been doing this for years on the TCH twinning jobs in Banff and now Yoho.

This is all very exciting & awesome news!
I'm sure hoping the Cons don't put a halt to the West RR when they get elected.

It would be very stupid of them to. It needs to be an election issue so we know where they stand ahead of time. If Kenney's plan is to go back to the old days when we only built during boom times and paid double the cost then he'll lose a lot of support. I wish he had stayed in federal politics because that's what he understands.

Wonder if the Bow bridge will use the same incremental launch technique as the existing span? It was interesting to watch and definitely minimimized the construction footprint.

I don't see why they wouldn't. Do you remember how long it took to build the existing span?

Great news! And agree that no erection would typically take that long.

Remember well. Construction started May 1996 and bridge opened Thanksgiving weekend 1997.

Thanks. I remember them building it but couldn't recall how quickly they did it.

Great to hear that they're confident work will begin on the last leg. Did you ask them why they're not using the same construction technique as the existing span of that bridge?

On a related note, I'd like to know why the SWCRR website hasn't posted any new photos since last August. It would be nice to see how it's progressing, especially the areas that are next to impossible for the average person to get to.

As for the bridge, from what I understand incremental launching isn’t required, and won’t save any money, so just no need.

An announcement on the week leg might happen a s soon as next week, apparently.
Thanks for the info. I check the website quite often for updates and always leave disappointed when there are new photos. When the various legs of 216 were being built in Edmonton it seemed like they got way more photos and videos. On one leg you could even zoom in on photos to see a fair amount of detail.

An announcement on the west leg next week would be perfect. I want to hear Kenney's reaction before the election.

New photos up on the SWCRR website, taken in January. Pretty limited photo set at this time, only including construction along the 22x portion.

The latest construction update I see is from October 2018. Are you looking somewhere other than this link?
