I noticed that the Starbucks on the northeast corner of 21st and 700 E closed this week, along with the jewelry store in the same building. Anyone know if something bigger is planned or if it’s just a remodel?

The NIMBYs in SH have limited that corner to 60' with setbacks. I doubt it

350 units in a 22 story tower mean nothing more than studio, 1 bedroom, and 2 bedroom units. Love it though and hope it gets built at that height. Much better than what LaPorte was going to do there. "If" this gets built with the other apartments to the north it should give State Street a bit of life. Now to get State Street updated with nice wide sidewalks, trees and better bike lanes.

If there’s anything I want for Christmas this year, is for at least one of the many proposals to break ground

So have we confirmed that that's the actual design of the old LaPorte project? If so, I'm in love with it, and would be absolutely stoked if it got built!

The rendering is crap. I think it will look better when finished. I like what the project is going to do with the surrounding area, that block really needs a makeover.

I would guess it may have something to do with the new Starbucks that's about to open (or is already open?) on 1300 East in the old Training Table location.

Though with the jewelry store also closing, it certainly could be something else. New owners I would assume.

Why would that rule out the possibility of a new building or development going there?

This doesn't seem to be the project awarded to Brinshore for the former Plaza at State Street project. The awarded project has 14 floors. Is this a concept from one of the losing bidders?https://www.sltrib.com/news/2018/09/...-city-has-new/

If I'm a developer I probably look elsewhere for a greater ROI to invest my time and money in. If I own the property I probably wait hoping the city will reconsider once SH is redeveloped more so my property value is maximized

I think you are probably right. This might just be a losing concept.

At least 14 stories is better than what is currently there now.

I don’t think the Strand is the project accepted by the RDA. It looks like one of the proposals that wasn’t selected.
