i hate sketchup. it can be fun casually, but it's such an unsophisticated 3d tool.

i'm tempted to rebuild/render the thing to do it some justice. it's a nice looking building.

That would be great. The post office is one of the worst eyesores downtown. I believe that block is within the DOC1 zone.

I could picture that. For some reason, the Hearst looks like it could be a typical Northwest urban design.

I hope the ECT would be able to surpass the 1,018' mark, so we could take back the title of having the tallest on the West Coast from LA (as much as I love LA!)...better yet, make it to 1,030' (wishful thinking) and we'd have the tallest outside of NY and Chicago for awhile!

That'd be awesome. Take back Seattle's crown! But who knows. We still have to wait until the real estate market improves. Other than the Hearst Tower I think a Waldorf=Astoria Chicago styled tower would look kinda nice. I'd like to keep our sloping skyline though. All the tall building around the Columbia Center make that are feel more like NY. And the density around the Retail Core/Denny Triangle also add to that feeling.

Two Union Christmas Lighting

Sorry this is so blurry, but the building looks great with the Christmas lighting- too bad they don't use the crown lights more often!

Did it snow in Seattle or something...or are the rooftops just frosted?

It's in the teens and 20s tonight! Eastern Washington weather!

BTW, 2U one night was red on one side and green on the other (looking at it from the west). I liked that a lot. The lighting in the picture looks OK but City Centre had it first and is a better fit. They should do the big solid lighting or a laser-like show.

Trump is really uncompromising on the designs he chooses. I wouldn't be surprised if this one remains completely unchanged.

This building would *definitely* need to be placed near Columbia Center; in fact, it needs to be placed just NORTH of it, otherwise our city will look even more like a bar graph (or cell phone bars).

^It'd be awesome if it were slightly north of 2U. That would really help fix the ramp.

I like the ramp. It makes for an unique skyline. And it shows we have more bars in more places.

So there's a video on the 5th+Columbia site. Not sure if it's new or what but I like it. And I like the music! Here's the link. The video is up to date and it even includes 5th and Marion!

And I'm guessing this is the new construction chedule:
Quote:
January 2008 - Issuance of revised Master Use Permit by the City of Seattle
April 2008 - Demolition of administrative building will commence
June 2008 - Completion of demolition
August 2008 - Repair of Sanctuary building and upgrades will commence
March 2009 - Shoring & Excavation will commence
March 2010 - Construction of High Rise portion of project will commence
July 2011 - Completion of Office Building and tenant move-in
And a new rendering for Insignia that I pulled from the website. There are more renderings if anybody wants to take a look.

And finally an update on 5th and Yesler:

I've caught folks marking and snooping around the Insignia site, and they weren't those road crews from earlier this year. 5+C is still busy fixing up the sanctuary.

Escala is going FAST at this point.

Maybe if we have a few Xmas Season-smashing snow storms this region will urbanize a lot more which is maybe a bad thing. I could lose some free off days

Nice shots of 5th & Yesler.

The Insignia towers need to be totally reworked. They're unimaginative boxes right now. The base is nice.

I like them the way they are. Sometimes, we just need boxy towers...

Anyways, here's some updates and pictures and whatnot... First is Escala which is looking really good as it comes up. I love the smooth transaction from the Camera's West building to the Escala base. They match perfectly! I also noticed that the glass panels are different colors on the middle and outside parts of the tower. Umm... it's best if you see...

Then we have O8 which is looking awesome right now. I saw the lighting test but it was blue and I didn't like it much. Can't wait to see the whole thing finished and lit up though. Those olives better look good!

And we have The Olivian of course...

Finally it's time for 1918 which is filling up. I wanna climb those steel beams to so bad!

Well yeah, I guess we won't see anything exciting for a while. We'll have 1918 but nothing will be the same as now, well, for a while. Can't wait till 5th and Columbia starts rising though!
