Meet and Greet!

Hey all,

I floated this a while back, but didn't really follow up. How about a meet and greet? I realized this past month that I've been contributing here for four years, and this forum has become a big part of my life here in PDX.

I always look forward to seeing new pictures and especially new snarky comments on the goings on around my city. It would be cool to associate the screen names with someone in "real life"!

So, then I'll take to plunge and propose a date and time. How about happy hour March 26th or March 28th? Maybe Clyde Common?

Let me know what works, and let's get something going!

I was just thinking about that too Philo, I'm just about to hit my 7th year on here.

Anyway, I'm game...next week's a really shitty week for me though, I have a conference I'm putting on downtown and it's a lot of long days and late nights.

Isn't Clyde Common really loud? I'd kind of prefer somewhere I can actually hear something.

I'm interested too, but next week isn't good for me either. Might it be an idea to plan a bit further in advance?

Also, I like Clyde Common-a lot-but I wonder if there might be somewhere better suited to groups? (Depending on how many people wish to come).

PS... I hope my post count is high enough for me to warrant an invitation. I've gone to similar events from skyscrapercity in Glasgow, Scotland, where I used to live, and they were always a lot of fun.

Is your post count enough? LOL! I wouldn't mind if a lurker or two showed up too. But I agree, we should plan it weeks out. Does this forum allow polls still? We could pick a preferred date.

The couple I went to in Seattle were held on a Saturday or Sunday. We met at a designated place/time and then did a couple hour walking tour of the city and arch. projects. We usually got some pretty interesting camera shots to post later on the forum. Would this be of interest?

HEAR YE, HEAR YE! I HEREBY NOMINATE THE LUCKY LAB AT 19TH AND QUIMBY ON AN EARLY-ISH SUNDAY AFTERNOON (actual date to be determined later by you all).

...why there?!? Easy! Parking isn't too hard to find, and the streetcar stops relatively nearby too. It's easy to snag a long table during off hours, and the place isn't too loud. I've been there for other group stuff and it's a sure winner of a spot. In fact, thanks to the fact that it has giant long connected tables, it's perfect for groups.

On the other hand... the other Lucky Lad, on Hawthorne, isn't quite as good for groups since it has individual tables... but a walk through industrial SE with cameras is always fun. It is to me, anyway. I love urban decay for photo walking. And inner SE is a really neat neighborhood in transition.

I currently work weekends, but in another week or two I should start getting Fridays and Saturdays off.

I'm free weekends and evenings, but I need some notice. A weekend in April or May would be something I'd show up for if you want some of us occasional commenters.

The April 21/22 weekend suggested would work for me, leaning towards a Sunday preference. If you all were thinking of a mid/late afternoon afair Hopworks (on Powell) has happy hour from 3-6 everyday, and a variety of seating configurations.

Perhaps a sticky at the top to keep a running total of how many are going would help with destination/seating choosing.

btw, I also like both BLabs for the beer hall vibe (miss that in the new Bridgeport).

cheers

Correct me if I'm wrong, but a person only gets carded in an Oregon brewery if you order an alcoholic drink. Just last week I was at the new FOTM on Fremont and was sitting in the bar section with a baby in a portable car seat on one side, and a kid no older than 10 on the other.

April 21/22 works for me too.

Oh yeah, my girlfriend is 21 and we go to brewery places all the time.

I'm just saying I wish I could have a brew with my fellow SSPers.
