That is a generic quote from some article. These are the outrigger levels, but there is a whole lot more going on at each of these levels than most will ever know about.

Are you related or work on the project? Is there anything you can elaborate on about the other things going on at these outrigger levels of interest to shed some light on them. Thanks.

Yes, I work on the structural steel team. Will try to share as things are now getting going. You can read up on L.A. times articles that give an overview of these levels, including renderings. There will also be a detailed article on the way in the coming week or two.

I have some photos from the plane today while landing at LAX - I have a zoom lens and and you can clearly see the core from the air - never posted a picture before and have to look up how to do it...

Pics from above sound great Kurt.

Re: uploading, you can start a Flickr or another account. Or, you can have someone else upload them for you. I'd be happy to do it and would credit you of course. Feel free to PM if you'd like

[QUOTE=RyanD;6855481]Out here for the holiday! Here are some phone snaps of this beauty!

The columns extending from the 1st to the 2nd floor and connecting beams for the 2nd floor are being installed on about 50% of the perimeter now.The North and West sides.

Here's the link to the L.A. times article for those interested:

http://graphics.latimes.com/wilshire-grand-earthquakes/

The steel you are seeing at level 28 are 10 huge plate embeds that the gusset plates for BRBs will attach. These look like columns, but had to be set this way due to their massive size and tolerance constraints.

Below is an aerial shot where you can see those embeds being set and a close up f them on the ground before install.

Steel erection will continue North and West for several levels before South and East catch up. After that, the steel will go up floor by floor uniformly.

Thanks SLJR for this update. As you said these are plate embeds. Not columns that are going up. That L.A. times article came out a while back.

[QUOTE=SLJR;6857957]Here's the link to the L.A. times article for those interested:

SLJR=It looks like the plate embeds go up to floor 29 or 30 Do you know how tall the core is in feet above the ground floor to the top of the plate embeds. It looks like over 300'

This live cam from ABC7 provides a good view of the Wilshire Grand and updates every few minutes. Unfortunately, the camera pans away to the left during the day, but still a good thing to have.

It's been a while since I was in L.A, is that Glendale in the background?
