Champaign Illinois

It was a little empty with the 90 degree weather and it being summer break for most people.

90 degrees keeps everyone inside? I thought staying inside was for winter. I notice people seem to be at least somewhat out and about.

Nice pics.

90 degrees may be nothing in Texas; it's something terrible for us Midwesterners. You know, like when say, Texans, bundle up like Russian babushka the minute the temp hits 50.

Love the last pic, Xing. lol

lol, that's a lot of Texans, but I've been known to step out in short sleeves approaching freezing, believe it or not. Been to Illinois (never been to Champaign though) in late fall when it feels like Texas "winter" too.

It's all good.

Wow! My hometown has change a whole lot since I moved away in '90. I used to live right across the street from that round-ish hotel(?) tower on John Street. Living on Frat Row was awesome as a kid

I miss Champaign. My sister-in-law moved and now I have no reason to visit, so thanks for the pictures. Please keep them coming and get some pictures of the new Electrical Engineering building on the North Quad. Have they already done ground-breaking?

Are you a student? I ask because that shot is from the back of a 7-series... :p

I almost moved into 310 Burnham, but it's so expensive!

EDIT: The new ECE building has not broken ground as it's still in planning.

Here's some recent construction pics I took while walking around campus one day (I don't have the new Hyatt downtown yet because I haven't gone downtown since winter started). Even though it's winter there's still plenty of construction going on in town!

Lets start with the new ECE building on campus (on Wright street just south of University)

Moving west on White street we see some new apartments (606 White Street)

Moving farther west and south we come to Green and Second, the former site of White Horse which has been demolished (White horse still lives on, in a new location just off sixth and John) to make way for a five-story apartment building. They had just demolished it when I took these shots...

There is a big hole in the ground where the "mall" used to be on Green and Fourth, but it's been there for months and nothing has been built yet.

There's a pretty big apartment building getting built at 75 Armory street just off campus:

Finally, UIUC is building some new dorms to replace the ones currently at Ikenberry Commons. Here's the latest one, right across the street from the ARC:

And just for fun, here's the Alma Mater base with no Alma Mater present! They're restoring it and it should be back in time for graduation this summer.
