That shell of a building on Maple between State and Dearborn (near The Hunt Club, Viagra Triangle, etc) might finally get finished building? Building permit issued with an alteration (which is weird - no second floor/mezzanine). Listed as retail

Fred Latsko owns it.

"Trader and developer Don Wilson is teaming up with Viceroy Hotel Group, a Los Angeles-based chain of boutique hotels, to run an 180-room hotel...

Wilson's development company, Chicago-based Convexity Properties, submitted plans to the Chicago City Council last week for the 18-story building on the Cedar Hotel site, at 1118 N. State St. The project would include a rooftop pool and terrace and preserve the four-story brick and terra cotta facade of the shuttered transient hotel on the property, according to a zoning application."

Hey, I don't know if anyone has noticed this building. It seems to be an old warehouse being converted into apartments. It's at 16th and Jefferson in what would be East Pilsen I think.

There's a billboard sticking up through the center of the building.

It seems like it's being clad in limestone panels.

I always thought it was designed to have a mezzanine since it has a stair enclosure

Right, and that's the alteration to the new building permit. Now that there's no mezzanine or second floor apparently, what are they going to do? And what was supposed to go in that building anyway? I always assumed it was supposed to be a restaurant or clothing shop.

That's a loud location along Winnebago with the blue line clattering on those elevated rails.
You get used to the clanging rattle though...

Has anyone heard any news of Rahm's plan to "Light up" the city? I remember hearing that the plans were suppose to be submitted during the summer, but nothing ever came of it except critics bashing the plan and its environmental "unfriendliness"

I'm just going to go out on a limb here and say that I'm sure they'll be installing noise dampening measures in these places

It might be loud if you have your window open, but I'm sure they'll address it no differently than other places have.

Being next to a station is probably better than being near a clear stretch of tracks, since the trains would be stopping and starting, rather than rumbling by at full speed.

Yes and no. The new trains have a high pitched whine when they are braking into a station. Stations also have loud announcements on the PA system which can and do travel to nearby residences, plus the door closing alarms.

I would definitely rather live next to an open stretch of tracks than a station (actually, I already do...)

On the other hand it is much easier to soundproof against high pitched sounds than low pitched ones, so new construction near a station might be surprisingly quiet.

At the zoning meeting last Friday, 1510 W Division got approved for some more changes (currently an empty lot but it will be a 4 story, 12 unit building). 1643 N Milwaukee also got approved for some more changes (read addition + 5th story addition).
