It now takes a very boring and very flat route East, but I would be surprised if it ever goes back to the old course when construction is done just due to the complexity of the roadways in that area, but I'll be pleasantly surprised if it does .
My understanding is that the bike path system is supposed to go back in the area so it stays connected throughout the city. No idea what they plan on doing but it should be doable.

Have you seen the animated video the AB government had made for this project? It'll give you a good idea of just how big this project is and how massive some of the interchange complexes are going to be.

There's a ton happening with the project but it's probably too hard for people to get photos.

Yeah, it would be great to see more updates, but I imagine it's not easy to get great photos--the aerial shots are really helpful, but don't come that often.

Not to get things too political, but there was talk previously about if the NDP got ousted there would be parts of the project possibly at risk of being completed--is that a legit risk or are things too far along at this point to backtrack on anything?

I can give a little text summary from my neck of the woods.

Fish Creek Blvd Overpass - Concrete Screed machines are set up on the overpass, indicating they will probably be doing the deck pour soon.

Fish Creek bridge - All girders in place, temporary railings and support structures are being laid in place, starting from the South and working their way north.

130th Ave Overpass - Continued work on getting ready for the deck pour with rebar being placed as well as other work

Woodbine/Tsuut'ina pedestrian overpass - Piling operations underway on Woodbine side, as well as supporting earth works.

Fish Creek to Anderson road works - continued grading/ earth moving/ drainage preparation is ongoing

Anderson interchange - continued earthworks, and all girders staged on site.

The UCP said they're sticking with the NDP's 2019-2023 Capital Plan so the entire project should get done as planned. As far as I know preliminary work is still going on for the West leg of 201 and there's no way they can stop work on the SW portion.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like they're making great progress. The only part I see somewhat regularly is the huge Glenmore/Sarcee/Highway 8/etc. complex. We need a cool name for this complex. Anyway, to me it looks like all of the supports for the bridges are in place and they're starting to build some of the bridges. I can't see this taking until fall 2021 to complete so there must be some sections that are just getting started. The last time I saw the interchange at Macleod it looked like they could be done that area by next summer or fall easily.

The contractor calls it "Site 11" IIRC, but that's not a very sexy name. How about GS8? I'm shamelessly staling the naming scheme of the GE5 (Glenmore/Elbow/5th Street) project for it.

Are you talking about that the trench that is Glenmore near Macleod?

And sure GS8 would work, but how about the Tsuu'tina Trail?

Just wondering, what’s Jason Kenney going to do with the project? Green or red light?

See the previous posts, nobody knows for sure except (maybe) Jason Kenney. I personally would highly doubt the WRR would be cancelled now, it would needlessly waste money and enrage the population of Calgary. Without that final piece the rest of the road becomes far less useful.

This is why I still say Deerfoot/22X, because there's no doubt which interchange that is.
The media is just as bad and they also tend not to mention the quadrant when necessary.

I was thinking more along the lines of names such as the "Mixing Bowl" or "Mouse Trap" which are huge interchange complexes in Springfield, VA and Denver, respectively. Does the interchange complex in question resemble anything?

With the GE5 portion of Glenmore effectively moved down into a trench, I think that portion should be referred to as the "Glenmore Gutter". This also creates opportunity for creative wordplay when there is traffic. "The Gutter is clogged again," and, "Shit won't start moving well for at least another hour," etc. Once GS8 (or whatever) is done, you could nicely predict issues in "The Gutter". Massive flows heading eastbound towards "The Gutter" - clear out or you'll get stuck in the muck.

The photos are not showing up here but they're fine on Twitter.

I drove by there yesterday and noticed this had been done. There's a lot going on in that area. Looks very impressive!

Wow!
How come the bridges are so far apart? Is this for future expansion?

Lol. Yes, it is. It is for future expansion that there was never any intention of building - they can put another freeway down the middle of that if they want to.

That's not true at all. When the deal to acquire the land was being made and the road was being designed there was every intention of having another freeway in the area. The NDP saying it won't be needed was based on ideology. If XXX doesn't get built in the future I can see them adding in extra lanes when they shift the #1 to that alignment. They'll be CD lanes and possibly HOV/HOT lanes.
